A while back, I was eating some watermellon outside and threw the seeds into the garden. I was in the garden today and blimey, there was this great big watermellon staring me in the eye.

Does anyone have any experience growing mellon fruit? Whens the right time to pick it? And how do i stop insects eating at it? Do I put a block of wood underneath it like growing pumpkins?

GoEagles aka Potential Con the Fruiter.

Give watermelon a rap with your knuckle. If it sounds hollow it's ready.
The underneath bit turning yellow is another indication.

a similar thing happened to me once. it wasn't a watermelon but i suppose the same rule applies. don't let your neighbour see it or he'll more than likely jump the fence and steal it.

Neighbours are oldies. I'd say they would struggle to jump out of bed on most days :D

I once planted watermelon seeds. Real bought-from-the-shop ones too.

They grew into Pumpkins.

A watermellon seed grew into a pumpkin? lol

Wow, you should have sent it to Gardening Australia - they would have been chuffed at what fertiliser you put on your garden.
