Ok, heres the deal. I borrowed a spare guitar from a mate 2 start to learn how to play. The only thing wrong with it is that the strings needed changing. Ive done that, but now the low E string (the fat one) vibrated against the fret board when I play it. My mate said that maybe if I fiddle around with the screw-spring contraption at the bottom it might help. I did that and it helped a little. But it still sounds crap. Any suggestions?

PS, it is a fender squire strat if that makes a difference.

Learn Bass its much easier, it may not be as much fun, but it will get you a slot in a band and that should be good. Anyway if you are going to learn, just dont give up straight away, just give it a few week sand your finger work will improve alot and that will make life easier when you learn that actual thing.

Gee, thanks for answering my question so concisely

I'm not 100% sure whether this will help, but you might want to try getting a different gauge E string. I think it would be a lighter gauge string which would be less likely to vibrate against the fretboard.

how old is the guitar? it might be worth going to a music shop and asking about a fret dress. Or telling them your problem?
they should help you out

Gee you little twat, you should be thanking me for that advice not rolling your eyes at me. Whats the bet you are going to disregard my advice and you will give up with 2 days.
You did not answer his question at all.

He asked for help on an E string vibrating against the fretboard, not suggestions on changing instruments and why it will be so much easier to get into a band...

just take the guitar to someone who might know what they are on about.

did you change the strings? maybe it was not put on properly.

p.s bass is for losers who are no good at guitar :)

Lol. Guitar is for peope with girly fingers who cant handle pressing on bigger strings.:p

:confused:haha nice comeback!! :thumbsd:
think about how many awesome guitarists you are insulting!
do you really rate Bass Guitar better ??

who wants big fat fingers?
I rate bass players better and what they do and guitarists better at what they do. You dont get to many guitarists that are great bassists and you dont get many good Bassists that are great guitarists. I was clearly joking about guitarists having girly fingers. And bassists dont have fat fingers, they have strong fingers for your information.

You have to raise the strings if its vibrating or as someone else said get a smaller gauge string.

Also you should have got all new strings instead of just 1.

Being someone who plays both quite often, I've noticed electric/acoustic guitars hurt your left hand fingers and bass guitars hurt your right hand fingers - unless you're uncoordinated with a pick and then you might get a couple of sore fingers on your right hand from strumming.

Your a ****ing idiot. Did you know that? Go back and listen to your good charlotte and simple plan music, where the bassline is repeated using three notes.

Wow somebody isnt getting any. So you are of the belief that playing bass well is harder then playing guitar well. You sir are indeed a twat.:thumbsd: I wouldn't mind finding out why you think i am a F**king idiot. Actually nah, the opinion of a man who is probably a labourer who drinks his arse off doesnt intrest me.

Yeah I did get all new strings, its just that one that sounds stuffed.

Im not gonna go out of my way to fix it if it involves buying new things for the guitar. Like I said, its not my guitar, so I dont want to spend money fixing it. I was just lucky thats I had a spare set of strings that dad hadnt used yet. Im gonna buy myself a guitar at the end of exams (18 days, woohoo :D ) anyway, so im not too fussed, I was just hoping there was something small I could do that wold help.

PS. Is there any difference between Les Paul style guitars and normal electric guitars apart from the look, ie: does is sound the same, or is there a difference? Im looking to get an Epiphone Special II, does anybody know anything about these, good, bad, etc.

Well for me i have been playing guitar for about 6 years and i believe that all guitars sound different. So yes a Epiphone special II as you say would sound different to a Squier to me, but maybe not everyone.

Try out a few guitars before you buy one by the way and dont just buy one because it looks good.

Watch a few minutes of that and you'll realise that bass guitar playing is as hard as you want it to be.

Played bass for 6 years, guitar for 8+, its all about how much you put into it
Not getting any? what are you, 15? sure you play a bunch of bass notes and you can play bass? by that idea you could play a bunch of power chords and you can play guitar:rolleyes:

Grow Up plz. The fact you have said bass is much easier then guitar proves you are a ****ing idiot, most people will agree with me

Anyways, what kind of guitar do you play? maybe raising the bridge might fix it?
