Guitar Tabs

Hey guys.

I've started playing guitar recently and while I'm still pretty terrible I'm ready to move on from nursery rhymes and start with some basic tabs.

Could those in the know build up a little list of some of the better songs to learn from.

Gday mate, What style do you want to play / are interested in?

If you're after tabs my favourite site at the moment is: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com - has a heap of other great resources too.

Otherwise search on google - there's a mountain of stuff out there.

Thanks guys.

Love pretty standard indie rock music..

Arctic Monkeys
Kings of Leon
MUSE
Interpol

I'm also loving alot of older stuff

The Doors
The Beatles
Roxy Music
The Rolling Stones

So ideally if I could find these kinds of guys easier to play songs that'd be best.

there's a place called 911tabs that provides song/band searches from dozens of other guitar tab sites. i imagine there are many just like it, but it does provide you with a wide variety of tab sites and as a result, various different styles of tabs. easy enough to find one that suits you amongst the mix, i suppose.

http://www.powertabs.net/ has an excellent database of different musical genres and learning techniques and the software editor is excellent and unlike guitar pro 5,which costs, its free.

if you get tabs in guitar pro, it will play the file with actually timing so you can play along with it. It helps with rthym.

It's also very helpful for learning small phrases. You can just highlight a section and slow the tempo down and get it to repeat.

I use this site as well. And also 911tabs.com occasionally. Just a small warning - guitar tab sites can infect your computer with a few nasty viruses...:(

Like anything, you generally get what you pay for. There are a lot of good tabs on the net, but there are also many that are just plainly wrong, so approach those big tab search engines/sites (anything with the word tab in it's name) with a bit of caution. I've just had a look at the guitarnoise site that Sgt. Pepper suggested and that looks like a great place to start. Once you progress through the lessons there you might want to buy a tab/chord songbook so that you can continue to learn new songs, knowing the stuff has been professionally transcribed, rather than potentially worked out by some pimple-faced bedroom noodler. Especially in the early days of learning when it may take a lot of time and frustration before you work out why what you're playing doesn't sound like the original. I think Allans have 20% off sheet music at the moment and Borders normally stock part of the range of Guitar Chord Songbooks from Wise Publications, which I rate highly. These books have chords only, but they have a pretty wide range of songs (anything from 60s pop through to modern indie & alt stuff) in each book and from what I've seen in the two books from the series that I've got, they are accurate. The great thing about these books is you'll get to learn a lot of different chords and the way they can be used and combined from some of the best songwriters in the caper. I've been playing for 20 odd years and I love just thumbing through these books and strumming along to songs that I never would have thought to learn myself.

I've got a couple of things I've collected on the net that you might be interested in (all PDF files):

The Beatles - Revolver - complete album, pro transcription.

Beatles complete songbook - huge collection (looks like it may be the entire catalogue) of beatles chords and tabs collected from the net. I've only had a look at a fraction of the stuff here, but the ones I have played along to seem relatively accurate.

Rolling Stones - huge collection of chords and tabs collected from the net. I haven't looked at any of this yet so can't vouch for it's accuracy.

PM me if you want me to email any of these to you.
