I really want this guy to be next Essendon coach, Sheedy was one of a kind so thinking that we can REPLACE him is just plain ridiculous. We should be looking at the credentials and experience rather than if the can market the club we are already high profile club because of sheeds.

What we need now is a stabiliser to carry on with the list that sheedy has built we are in no need of any real clean out unlike carlton and melbourne. Our list has the chance of a premiership in the next 2-3 years i would think. Of course Hird will retire after this year and is irreplaceable but we have some great young and younger players we can continue to build on, we need a coach he can put thw work and encouragement into these new players coming through so they can become the best possible player.

Winderlich, Davey, Houli, Mc Veigh, Welsh, Monfries, Gumbleton, Hislop, Ryder, Stanton, Watson and Hille are all going to be at the club over the preceeding years and there is some very good names to build on. We will look to move on players who no longer offer enough to the club, players like Camporeale, Mark and Jason Johnson, Bradley, Bolton and Cole. We need to trade these players to clubs that already have a solid list of youngsters and need experince so we can have as many picks as possible in the draft to continue rebuilding. No Neale Daniher look at the mess he has put Melbourne in, i would love Harvs or Bomber but looks like they will be no option there, Guy is untried and the prospect of him coming to Essendon bringing something different to the table where it has been so much the same for 27 years is very exciting.

i want mckenna as well but dont discount bomber thompson...essendon have approached him and from what ive heard theres a huge chance we will coach essendon in 08

Good Post. Yeah from what i've heard I like the sound of Guy McKenna too, although there are mixed reports - either very good or very bad. I like the idea of someone like him maybe having more links in WA and improving our recruiting over there at the deep end of the draft.

regarding the list: I think the Johnsons and Bradley will be at Essendon next year. We have had a lot of exits from the club in the last couple years. We may only lose 4-5 this year IMO.
Hird (retired)
Cole
Camporeale (would be good if he retired rather than delisted)
Heffernan (would be good if he retired rather than delisted)
Bolton

Not keen on McKenna. Not sure he really has much to do with the way the Pies are playing atm plus his own club (the Eagles) thought he was a dud. Geelong are playing well now but overall Thompson has been an underachiever. Mark Harvey would be my #1 choice. He now has senior coaching experience under his belt and having spent time in WA he would be more up-to-date with what is happening over there (than McKenna anyway) not just scouting but training techniques, player development etc.
