I thought you had Fraser pegged as a running goalkicking ruck-rover type who cant ruck especially well and Richards as an old fashioned tap ruckman who can ruck but cant do much else?

They are completely different types of players.

In a ruck contest, which is all I was referring to, they have a similar style. Physically weak and a limited leap. I think Richards might be slightly ahead with his hands but neither are good enough. I have actually commented numerous times about their styles – particularly in threads about playing or keeping Cameron Cloke in the past. Fraser is good with his around the ground play and as an option up forward but that’s not ruckwork.

i must admit i am not the biggest richards fan but the utter crap of playing him 1 week and bryan the next is doing my head in MM has to decide on which one hes gonna persist with in the coming weeks leading into finals i would rather bryan although not as good as guy in taps around the ground he tackles hard and i find myself not flinching everytime he goes for a mark (unlike when guy attempts for marks), he can also go forward and provide a contest for the smaller blokes to crumb off i.e. if rocca is having 1 of his terrible days.

i also think as mentioned in previous threads that we should look to be trading for a younger ruckman ready to play afl footy i.e. Meeson from the crows or one of the brisbane rucks wood or leunberger. id give my 2nd rounder plus a toovey or cox or lonie for that

In MM’s defence I suspect he is making that assessment by trialling them and neither is demanding the spot with form.

I'd hold on to him atm. Hasn't shown enough to have great trade value but looks like he'll be a v.good player for us. 2nd rounder + toovey (lonie is worth squat) won't do it IMO just because decent rucks are so rare. I imagine the 1st rounder will be the base of any such trade.

yep I agree he has gradually improved in general play and confidence, but has a long way to go - hopefullly cintinues to improve, but needs to develop some AGRESSION!!! Just seems rather passive and scared in general play. whether scared of injury or scared of failure or both, I'm not sure, but has to start backing himself and taking risks, and showing some agro - maybe if he jumps in and sticks up for another player when there's a bit of biff happenning, that would be a good start. I mean if the wisps DAisy and Pendles can do it then stick-insect can too.

yeah thats fine then give them 3 weeks each at least a bit of time to run into a bit of touch and get used to the pace of AFL.

one week at afl level and the next at vfl level wouldnt help either of them establish themselves as our number 2 ruckman

I tend to agree but the reality is neither are good enough. MM may well do the same in the finals. Play one and if goes ok keep him and if not swap them over. Probably not ideal but he chose to go with a deficient ruck division again and I’d guess he doesn’t see it as all that important.

Richards is the best ruckman we got , bryant has failed too often and his kicking under pressure is inaccurate. We need to preserve josh for the finals. He is great around the ground and a beutiful kick for goal. brisbane will test our rucks.
