With fox footy stating that black is considering his options. Do we want H Black. This time last year Black was good value for money, but his price has since sky rocketed. A likely trade would be Simmonds straight swap for him.
I have also heard that freo is very close to the salary cap, so the likely hood of picking up H Black and J carr is remote unless we off load a player or two.

Dont know where your hearing that, it was supposedly the rationale for trading croad, delisting clive, lengthening wiz's contract. It was to give us the breathing space to go for a gun midfielder. I havent heard that space has suddenly evaporated.

Do we need Black seems a high price to trade him for Simmonds, as a ruckman and in demand he should carry more than a Black anyway. I hope we dont trade him but it seems more than likely we will and he'll McPhee us.

You give us Simmonds

Considering you guys haven't re-signed Luke Ball yet and rumours are you can only offer him $200,000 due to your TPP I think our second rounder should suffice.

Any more and I don't want him.

Black was a 'high profile' recruit at the time his contract was signed and would be on a bit of $$$ so if the saints want to keep the rest of its young guns together they will have to off load some one at a bargin price (2nd rounder).

Heath Black come on down...

Ha dreaming.
You want to give us a soft outside player for a key position player able to play back, forward and ruck well?
No way in hell.
Black is exactly what we dont need, he is a poor mans Headland.
Brilliant skills but very much a seagull.
Josh Carr is everything, we try for him and no one else untill he has decided.

Fair enough on Josh Carr, but Black will give you a lot more in team balance than will Simmonds. Pacey penetrating kicks through the midfield are in short supply at Dockerland. Simmonds on the other hand is 3rd in line for all positions he plays.

On the Saints behalf we're desperate for a ruckman and happy to lose a good midfielder to get one, not so happy for a second rounder one would think.

Wrong, We have enough Heath Blacks. We only have one Josh Carr type. (Cookie). Not saying that Heath wouldn't be good but he would not overcome the loss of Snake.

Firstly Simmonds regardless of team balance has a greater value than Black.
Secondly Headland and Pavlich are as long kicking as they come.
So no we dont need the penetrating kickers we need the "mongreL"

I noticed "pacy" was omitted from your post ;)

Straight swap for Medhurst and Farmer.

You're kidding? Medhurst kicked 40 goals this year in a sub-standard year. Farmer can provide run off the half forward flank and you want to give away the LAST parts of structure in our forward fifty for a pansy who can kick a ball long?

I'd say no to Heath Black, a year ago he was what we needed, another good midfielder but now we need mongrel, guts and skill so we'd be more interested in Josh Carr. Having saying that I think he'll miss the first couple of games next season if the tribuneral picks up on some of the headlocks and punches he did on Simon Black :(

So no Black, go for Carr and FFS don't trade Medhurst!

Heath Black is 2nd option to Freo, once the Carr deal is in place. Josh Carr, will be in purple next year, & I can see perhaps Freo losing draft picks & Dunn in the process, & perhaps a crab like Grover or similar.

If the Carr deal has taken place & Heath Black was on the market, I would have no hesitation in trading Simmonds for Heath Black. Blackie is very good in the wide expanses of Subi Oval, & his running & penetrating kicking inside 50 would be invaluable. Pav will play FF/CHF in 2005, so he won't be in the midfield as much, & Headland can play the other wing.

I would love to see Black and Carr in Dockers colours next year. The dream trade week from my point of view would be, freo gaining J Carr, H Black, B Brooks, for our 1st pick, Simmonds, and either Walker, Woods or Grover. I see that as reasonably fair.

Grant Thomas has said "H Black is inclide to head back to perth". With richmond not looking to deal a deal for simmonds and Port playing hard ball with Carr. Maybe we should switch our focus away from doing deal for simmonds and Carr untill friday, maybe focus on trading T lo and Black instead.

*WCE have said at this stage they are not interested in doing a deal for H Black

I get the distinct feeling that Thomas will do for Black what he did for Begley (home sickness to Adelaide). If he needs to move back to Freo for family commitments, then I'm guessing we'll take next to nothing for him (second round draft pick or heaven forbid worse, a third round draft pick).

Thomas has always maintained the attitude, if you play for the Saints, it's because you want to. I think he is one of the more openly compassionate coaches.

I will be sad to lose Heath, he was a gun for us during 2004 and I have no doubts on his move to Freo, he will continue to be a gun.
