i dont know how anyone can bag a guy that kept the best forward in the game to 1 goal.. yes he had help, yes he had to have a 5 minute breather every quarter, but gee.... reiwoldt had zero influence on the game....... surely you guys have to give credit where its due and say that taylor had a great game.... he wasnt norm smith worthy but he would have been in the cats best 5 players, behind ablett, chapman, bartel, and scarlett

He played with a busted hand for 3 quaters never shirking any challenge. No doubt that he had help but I can tell you this.

He is 10 times the forward that Mooney is and they had a truckload of inside 50's by comparison with the Cats. Not once did he shirk his responsibility or argue with the umpire. He went about his business as a thorough professional.

Excellent defender. Period!:thumbsu:

yeah the one in the third quarter

What about Rookes match winning tackle and goal in the first....

A match winning tackle in the FIRST quater??? Interesting concept in such a close game.

Bradesmaen, didnt you just say that big men had no influence over the game? I think that you will find that Rooke is quite a big man.

Why dont you just pay credit where it is due. Taylor is part of an excellent defensive unit. He more than help up his end of the bargain by nullifying Blondie. An excellent effort by all accounts.

He showed guts, determination and concentrated an all aspects of the game. That 'Match Winning' smother that he performed in the LAST quater was a first rate effort.

Taylor was in the top 5 players for Geelong. End transmission!!!

There are some tough markers around here. HT is playing in the best team in the comp and gets the job on the best power forward going around, does his job, Cats win, he is almost unanimously lauded in the media, some think unlucky not to get the Normie.
Mark Thompson rates him pretty highly.
Can't do much more than that.
Succinct assessment. Thought he was very good - the only defender currently on our list who has played a better game than he did on the weekend is Tarrant.

Clearly the emoticon of  has no meaning to you, or you don't understand it.

Oh well

Clearly you do not understand the importance of a defender and his role in negating the role of one of the greatest forwards in our game.

Clearly you have forgotten about the importance of BIG players in the forward line (Even on a wet day) and how vital it is to stop them.

Clearly you dont understand that Taylor had an excellent game. Oh well:rolleyes:

Pretty sure the smother was in the third quarter. Just remember thinking that if that had gone through, then it would've gone a fair way to sealing the match.

If he wasn't top 5 for Geelong, then definately top 10. Dont know how anyone could disagree with the second option.

It's fair to say he might have been a better rookie pick up in 2006 than D. Rumble.

I think you have hit the nail on the head their beautifully......Head and Rumble say no more......footy is a team game, thus Taylor is an important cog in the Geelong defence, he does his job with the minimal of fuss and yes fella's like Reiwoldt and Buddy do require some double teaming....just watch the replay, it's Taylors fist spoiling Reiwoldt 90% of the time....good luck to the guy.....the guy has played in two GF's.....Roughhead kicked 2 goals on him in a winning side, whilst Reiwoldt kicked 1 goal on him in a losing side....in both games the fella has played on key forwards and kept them under a couple of goals....not too many of Freo's present defenders have that record on their CV

You have to wonder how we have managed to miss players on weekly display in the WAFL. Is it a case of the grass being greener - or merely the football department being greener?

Taylor was taken first round in the 2007 national draft as a 21 year old. Geelong took him as a cheap, near ready-made replacement for Matthew Egan. There is no way we could have taken him where we probably would have intended (later, perhaps even rookied).

I don't think he'd ever shown the form prior to 2007 to suggest he was worth drafting. Even then, his best ever game was on the weekend - there were still huge doubts about him up until the GF.

I doubt that the Geelong match committe had huge doubts about him before Saturday. Taylor played 48 games for East Freo over three seasons prior to being drafted. He was highly regarded at the club and even a casual observer, such as myself, of some of his early games with The Sharks could see the potential.

Taylor fills a role for Geelong. If anything starts going really wrong they have Scarlett to mop up. I rated his game highly, but how were we supposed to get him?

He definitely would have been a better rookie pick up in 2006 than the ones we got.

I saw an interview with him yesterday where it was mentioned that he keeps a dossier on every forward he plays on where he writes down all their strengths, weaknesses, how to play on them, etc. Shows a great level of professionalism and dedication to playing his role.

Harry Taylor is just another link in the chain of excellent East Freo players who have gone on to have successful AFL careers for non WA clubs in recent history. Simon Black, Shane Woewodin, even Andrew Swallow seems to threaten to be a good player every now and then. 'Scuse my lack of memory, but doesn't Mitch Clark also belong in that group?

The shove off by Riewoldt on him shows his big weakness, that hasn't improved in two years and he is already 22. He won't be able to hold off the bigger forwards in a one on one, constantly loses them. I'd rather have Scarlett with no legs than Harry Taylor.

Yup! I guess Harry must be the only defender Riewoldt has ever beaten in a one on one. Proves he's weak as piss.

That is exactly what you said.
Totally man. I mean can you see where I wrote it? I can!

In terms of physical development, if he hasn't beefed up that much as a 21 year old in 1 and a half pre-seasons at Geelong then he's not going to beef up more. Pavlich was bigger than him at 17.

Non-sense, he's only been in the system for two years he's still got plenty of work to do on his size.

And Pav is a freak.

Not really. Look at some others that are similar builds. Guys like Brad Fisher, Kelvin Moore, Dustin Fletcher. They've been in the system and have never put on the big muscle. Even Fletcher gets out bodied and muscled, but has those freaky long arms that make him impossible to beat like that. Harry does not. He's 23 (I was slightly off the mark there), his filling out phase is almost complete and given that he's done 1.5 preseasons and put on probably 1kg, he's not going to stack on much more muscle. Educate yourself.
