Ok, so it's now evident again in 2017, that Hardwick can prepare a team to run out onto the field most of the time and hit the ground running, jump a team, ski all the way downhill, look like a million bucks AND THEN dissolve away to nothing in the second half.

I presume to most football watchers and devotees of the modern game, we now understand that the 1st half of football MEANS NOTHING. It doesn't matter if you are 5-6-7 goals up at Half Time OR 5-6-7 goals down, when you come out for the beginning of the 3rd Quarter after Half Time, mentally and physically, the game may as well be starting from nil all again. Everything up to Half Time is now irrelevant. The actual game that determines the outcome of the match starts with the beginning of the 3rd Quarter. The scoreboard might suggest differently, but the slate has now been wiped cleaned for both teams. Your big lead from the first half can be dismantled and dissolved, OR your chance to peg back a team can become a reality in the first 10 minutes.

And this is where Hardwick's achilles heel is. Hardwick prepares the players to go a million miles an hour with our team only having enough steam, will to win, clarity of thought, smart decision making, endeavour, planning, strategy and game style to make an impact in the first half. After that, we resemble the just turned 18 year old boy-to-man, who gets so excited when he enters his first massage parlour, that he leaves his happy ending in his pants in the lounge/bar waiting area. This RFC Senior Team of 2017 can't keep a lead after Half Time, because the unevenness of Hardwick's message and planning is all centred around the opening & second stanzas of a game. Hardwick obviously has no Plan B, because once he has exhausted Plan A (the all out attack of the first half) we have nothing left. No plan, no passion, no will to work, no thinking, no organisation.

I wish Hardwick would understand that to well trained, drilled, and primed Senior AFL Coaches....THE FIRST HALF OF GAMES DOESN'T MATTER. But lately, Hardwick lets the team drain itself to its last shot, right up until the Half Time siren. After half time Richmond become hesitant, slow, paranoid and claustrophobic, devoid of run, energy and the speed of thought to make smart, correct decisions under the more pressing stress of the second half.

If we start like a bull at a gate early against Essendon at the 'G' for the Dream Time game, eventually, IN THE SECOND HALF, Essendon will run us off our legs. If we are in front, Essendon will catch us. If we are behind, Essendon will burn us off in the second half.

For just once in his Coaching career, I hope Damian Hardwick is prepared for the second half of football. I don't care about the first half of football. I just want our players to not get over-run AGAIN. All it takes to stop this current Richmond disease is for Hardwick to understand the possibilities and plan for it. Hardwick needs a Plan B second half strategy. I'm tired of the RFC Players going missing in the 2nd Half of games and I'm also tired of Hardwick going missing in the 2nd Half of games ONLY TO appear in the after game Press Conference with all the answers and solution to our latest demise...albeit, too late! I'm tired of our wasted effort in the first half of games, and no effort in the second half of games. Hardwick's coaching career is now back on thin ice unless he controls these 2nd half game nose dives. It can't be tolerated at Richmond. 'Half-Time' Hardwick must get all players to see out entire games now. Or don't play players who disappear, choke or make poor skill decisions in the vital 3rd & 4th Quarters of games. This can't be a big ask of a Coach who's been leading a Senior Team since 2009.

See you at the game. (I'll be the one snoozing through the first half, because the real shite happens in the 3rd & 4th)

Cheers
(P.S: Hurry up and fix the Vaucluse Hotel you slack buggers) ;)

Late so I skimmed through that. Agree except our 3rd quarter was pretty good this week!
I think it's a sustained effort which is the problem. We have played some good last quarters (last minute or so not withstanding!) and good first quarters, but not so many second or third quarters and never more than 2 really good quarters in a match.
It will be interesting how our third quarters go over the next couple of weeks.

Bit unfair Delib - he's been searching for one since the 2013 final series ended. Give him time. Since then he's been using Terry's plan B that Jake wrote on the back of cubicle 3 - "Swinging Jake King to the forward line". Enter Steve Morris

Good work Deliberate and it's a pity we don't see enough of you on here. We're getting there mate as DH has promised he will get another lot of fresh virgins to the top. He just needs to pump 50 games into them and educate them so they can carry out his new Harvard game Plan .

A bit long for the average bf post but I thought hell why not, must say its hard to argue against.
Only issue is the Freo game, 30 down and we rally and nearly win but still fail to setup in the last seconds, maybe we need to chat to the players wags and see if they are as prone to premature ejaculation as they are to premature celebration, yes we have had some bad luck and some shocking umpiring go against us at times but for christs sake when will they learn it's not over until the fat lady sings or in our pc non fat shaming World, until the fricken siren goes.

Nice drama and theatrics but perhaps you need to check your facts first, out of the 9 games we have played we have outscored our opponents in the second half on 6 of those games including big 3qtr time defecits against Melbourne and Freo. The first 5 wins we outscored the opponent in the second half.

The 3 games we lost the 2nd half were Adelaide when we were smashed, GWS when we kicked poorly in the last qtr and the narrow defeat to the doggies.

Your argument that DH cannot get us going in the second half falls flat IMO.

A bit of luck, ball bounces the otherway and we could be 8 - 1 and a game clear on top, we are not unfortunately yet we are playing kids, with only 1 tall forward and playing good footy against good sides.

Im not a DH fan but we should not be pannicking just yet.

Not sure we are running out legs. Teams like the Giants and Dogs will always come back. We had a big last quarter against the Dockers. Bad kicking and bad luck with umpiring decisions cost us the game against Giants. We have a pretty talented 22. We just need to fill the void at CHF in the draft/trade period this year. Players such as Houli, Grigg and Ellis will be forced out over the next 2 years. Elton, Moore, Morris, Maric, Broad, Batchelor, Yarran, Hunt will be cut from the list you would think. Naish and Reid may be part of our 22 next year.

We've come out firing some games and come back firing others. The bigger problem is we can't seem to play 4 quarters.

We were 5 goals down at 3 quarter time v Freo and Dees and came back, 2 goals down in the 3rd quarter v Pies, 1 goal down at half time v Eagles.
We got the jump on Crows, Dogs and GWS and then lost the ability to play against them all.

Richmond have a 6-3 win/loss record in last quarters this year but yeah we fade away after the half time break.

Only if you use actual facts though

I think everyone is just melting extra hard this week. It's fair enough though... I was filthy until Monday and now I'm pretty circumspect about it all. I far prefer being in games to getting pantsed, so I'll take what I've seen in 2017 over 2016 any day, especially given it's the kids in these situations rather than Morris, Hunt, Maric, Hampson etc

Yeah...like in the WCE game where we trailed at half time and won.

...or the Collingwood game.

...or the Melbourne game where we kicked 6 unanswered in the last quarter.

...or the Freo game where we only played the last quarter.

This is the most overly simplistic analysis of what's going wrong imaginable.

Hardwick can just PISS the hell off.
For once I don't think it's Hardwick's fault. Was it Hardwick's fault Lloyd and Houli had horrible turnovers? Was it Hardwick's fault we completely gassed? Was it Hardwick's fault Nankervis and Castagna missed set shots from directly in front?

not sure you can blame DH today, undersize kids run out if puff and lacking composure
stupid mistakes in the backline by the weak minded.... we know who they are

Incorrect. In a second half of football, Damian Hardwick becomes a spectator, no longer the Coach, a passenger.

Hardwick allows the players in the Second Half to slip out of the First Half Game style and Game Plan for the reason above.

It's as simple as that. All Hardwick's pregame planning and messaging goes out the window.
