Some good info on the up coming game. :thumbsu:

The new graphics engine enables the ability for Bungie to throw many more characters on screen at once, opening the possibility for massive battles that will make the fights in Halo 3 look tiny in comparison.

* Players control a Spartan named Noble 6, part of the Noble Team. The big first for the Halo series will be an entire team of Spartans fighting the alien Covenant at the same time.
* This is a prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved, and so Bungie wants the Covenant to feel dangerous again, like they did in the first game. They no longer speak in English, there’s a new enemy type called Skirmishers, who attack in packs, and the Elites are back as foes.
* Health packs are back, combined with regenerating health as in the original game.
* More stuff happening at once: Bungie says it can now cram 40 enemies and 20 vehicles in an area at once.
* New weapons: The Designated Marksman Rifle sits somewhere between sniper and battle rifle and the Needle Rifle acts like a Needler but with more accuracy and flexibility.
* Sniper rifle, assault rifle and magnum pistol return, as do frag and sticky grenades. Spike and flame grenades are out.

The armour options in multiplayer are going to be off the hook looking at that wraparound.

Interesting how they went the health pack route, sorta similar to ODST. Be good to start fighting elites again

I remember how insanely pumped I was for Halo 2 and 3... Halo just isn't doing anything for me anymore. Not much has changed since Combat Evolved in gameplay terms...

There was a pretty huge change between CE and Halo 2. Dual Wielding, health system etc

Then 3 brought in the use of equipment (bubble shields and drainers etc). Be interesting to see what they do to change it up with Reach

Really looking forward to having more of a fight going on in this, instead of Halo 3 where it was you vs a group of 5 or 6 enemies at each checkpoint, should be a lot more challenging and fun.

Apparrentley in Halo 3 the limit for enemies on screen at a time was 20, but the highest it ever got was about 18.

This new engine will be able to have 40 enemies on the screen at once, allowing for much larger combat.

Never really seemed like it though, the game just didn't make me feel like I was in a war zone with such little enemies.

Even though I know this game is going to blow me away, if there were more scenes like the one in Halo 3 where you fight two Scarabs at once, that would be the icing on the cake. And I mean that in terms of scale.

Yeah more big open world levels like "The Ark" and "The Covenant" in Halo 3 would be sweet.

And no "Cortana" like levels.

Hmm, reach wouldn't have flood too going by my understanding of the story arc. Prob not a bad thing

I'm assuming it'll have an ODST-like sandbox, except with Elites instead of Brutes.

Hopefully they'll keep the Brutes in the game because I liked fighting them just as much as Elites, but if they beef them up and use them scarcely coupled with Elites it could set up some really hard encounters.

Been a while since I read Fall of Reach book, but the Brutes I don't think landed on Reach?

Yeah that's a fair call, totally forgot about that haha :p. Bungie did state though that they're not going to follow the book, so I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Nice, can see pictures of the new race to fight against. Seems every game now has their version of MW2's Ghost.

Halo: Reach Beta coming to Halo 3: ODST owners May 3, 2010.

It'll most likely pop up in XBL marketplace later I reckon though.

The thing i'm most intrigued about in that cover shot...

...is that badass heavy machine gun being lugged by the guy on the left.

That's Jorge-052 (pronounced George) and he's the only Spartan-II in Noble Team. Everyone else is a Spartan-III.

Question:What about their armor? How can they be wearing Mark V? I read that Spartan-III’s were assigned SPI armor and that Master Chief was the first Spartan to adopt Mark V!

Answer: The Mk. V armor was the first of the line to be equipped with energy shields (based, in part, on captured Covenant matériel). S-117 was not the first Spartan to receive the Mk. V armor, as he had been in the field when it entered service on 24 Nov 2551. The most obvious indication of this is how familiar the Marines on the UNSC Pillar of Autumn (C-709) were with the armor.

So, what was so special about 29 Aug 2552? This was the very first time a "smart" AI had "piggy-backed" in the Mjolnir Mk. V powered assault armor during "live-fire" simulated combat conditions.

And while it’s true that the typical Spartan-III soldier was outfitted with the cheaper SPI armor, the members of Noble Team are anything but your typical Spartans.

Straight outta their update from the 29th of Jan :).

It's in your link under Noble team too ant

Noble Team is a Special Operations squad of Spartan-IIIs from both Alpha and Beta Companies. Composed of five Spartan-IIIs and an additional Spartan-II, Noble Team employs special tactics and equipment such as MJOLNIR Armor.

Yeah I missed that, was going by the books. Wonder how SIII's could even use it? They didn't have the same augmentation process as the SII's?
