.. Stuart MacGill :D

Just looking at his stats against the West Indies in previous tours and I notice is Birthday was today. 32 years old!

Too bad Warnes drug hearing wasn't today, as that could have been a great Birthday present for MacGill, as he should be heading to the West Indies.

Shane Warne will be back in time for the important tour of India next year.... the one series Australia really wants to win!! :D

He might indeed be.

But I don't think he can come straight back into the team. He would have to play at state level first.

What happens if MacGill gets into the form of his life and he is destroying teams (long shot I know).
He isn't necessarily guarenteed his spot back in the team straight away.

When is the Indian tour anyway?`

Shane Warne will be fit and raring to go by February 11th, 2004 if he wants to play cricket again and will come back into the Australian side because he is a world class cricketer.

The Indian tour is in February and March next year as far as I know.

I doubt Warne will be on the tour to India next year. Although the selectors may just pick him and get him back in a soon as possible and get his form via the tour matches.

So do I. Especially as I have just been informed that it is in February and March, directly after he comes back. It would have to be a monumental effort to do enough to get picked. If they say they will only pick players on form (ie Steve Waugh) then they must stand by that with Warne

He will never be guaranteed a spot.

In 1998/99 he took 54 wickets from 11 tests at an average of 23, he was sunsequently dropped for Warne who had in the 1997/1998 season had taken 40 wickets from 9 tests at an average of 35.

Warne then went on to take 58 wickets in the 1999/2000 season from 13 tests at 24, still not as good as MacGill was. MacGill next replaced Warne in 2000/01 and took 16 wickets at 26, obviously wasn't good enough though as MacGill was out for the 'much better' Warne who took 10 wickets at an average of 51. MacGill was next seen in South Africa alongside Warne in the 3rd test. Warne played all 3 tests and took 17 wickets at an average of 28 including 6 wickets in the 3rd test at 30. MacGill took 7 wickets at 25 in his only test of the series.

MacGill was bowling much better than Warne yet he was still dropped in favour of Warne because the selectors preferred Warne. The fact remains that Warne will always be preferred over MacGill no matter what, even if MacGill is the better bowler as he was at the time.

MacGill can consider himself the unluckiest cricketer of all time, despite bowling better than Warne he rarely got a game.

Shane Warne is the best leg-spinner the world has ever seen and the first spinner to take 400 test wickets. He is Australia's first choice spinner ahead of Stuart MacGill and if he wants to play and is fit, he'll be in the side.

I reckon you'll find that the upcoming Windies tour is the one that the Aussies want to win .....

After years of torment they want to keep them down, and neither Ponting or Waugh wants to be known as the captain that started the Windies on there way back to the top !

That is true.

Australia go into every series they play trying to win every match. However, beating India in India is something this Australian team is yet to do and it is that very reason I believe Shane Warne will be aiming to be ready for that series.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

And such is life here in Australia when you look at the talented cricketers playing in the Pura Cup competition who would fit into most other test teams in the world.

He averaged 40 with the ball in the latest Ashes series. Not too good if you ask me.

He isn't allowed to have an off series? Every other bowler is yet MacGill plays his 1 bad series and he is picked up for it.

there isnt a chance that warne will walk straight back into the test side. infact, he'll be lucky to get picked even if he has a bumper county stint in 2004. if brad hogg is sucessful in the carribean, which is a chance since he spins it away from the lefties, and has a good summer out here, an aged warne deprived of high level competitive cricket will be lucky to knock him off.
