Michael Palin from Monty Python fame, caught and ate piranha for sushi in Brazil.
The point is, it can be a 2-way thing with these buggers.
 
Initial reading made it seem like it happened at sea which interested me as I thought maybe they are one of these freshwater fish that can tolerate the sea for a while. As such they would go up a notch on my 'things to fear' board. But no it seems it was in a river that fed into the sea in a coastal town. Saltwater crocs are still the kings, and they can even come out onto land

Man, if I lived in South America I would keep away from the rivers. While you watch for piranhas an anaconda would get you from behind. Only freshwater crocs to worry about where I am

You must work for FNQ tourism. When I lived up there if you went for a swim you had a choice of getting attacked by stingers, crocs, sharks or being left behind by a reef diving boat.:p

No, and I don't live down the tourist trap coast...too dangerous. All we have are freshwater crocs, taipans tarantulas...and the occasional drop bear ;)
