Bit early to be starting a thread...but hopefully this horse can fill the void for all us Elvis fans this Spring!
Haradasun heads for the top
Exciting colt Haradasun returns to racing later this month in a campaign which could culminate with the Tattersall’s Cox Plate.
The colt, prepared by Tony Vasil at Caulfield, created a big impression on debut when taking a two-year-old race over 1300m at Swan Hill.
Never out of second gear, the colt scored by 10 lengths before being spelled again and set for the spring.
A half-brother to top galloper Elvstroem by Fusaichi Pegasus, Haradasun will kick off his spring campaign later this month in the Listed Vain Stakes (1100m) at his home track.
He will then have another run, possibly the Danehill Stakes (former Ascot Vale), before the Group 3 Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield on September 23 before the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 14.
All going well, he may then tackle the Group 1 Tattersall’s Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 28.
“He certainly blew them away on debut and I admit it was only a Swan Hill race but the telling factor was a very good time,” breeder and part-owner Frank Tagg said.
“Tony immediately tipped him out but he’s such a big strong horse he was in the paddock for just two weeks so he didn’t get away from us.
“Tony couldn’t be happier with him and he’ll trial next Tuesday before kicking off in the Vain Stakes on the Saturday.”
Elvstroem won the same debut race at Swan Hill (albeit in much slower time), before winning the Guineas Prelude then finishing fifth behind In Top Swing in the Guineas.
He was then balloted from the Cox Plate and instead ran in the AAMI Vase, having a stirring battle when a nose runner-up behind Kempinsky before winning the Victoria Derby.
He then went on to win another four Group 1 races including the Caulfield Cup over Makybe Diva along with the Duty Free Stakes in Dubai.
His regular rider, Nash Rawiller, will also be aboard his little brother throughout the spring.
Tony Vasil also had this to say about him in July this year:
"He's a half-brother to Elvstroem and sometimes I have to pinch myself with the amazing likeness between the two. In character, in ability, in everything he does," Vasil said. "We've been patient and we've been mindful of his value as a stallion in the long term, but I really think he's the real deal."
Haradasun scored by 10 lengths in his first start at Swan Hill in a lowly two-year-old maiden but managed to run three seconds quicker than the class five over the same distance the previous day, with the third horse going to Rosehill in Sydney and winning.
Breathtaking as the win was, Vasil believes that Haradasun may be sharper than his distinguished older half-brother, who is now at stud.
"Probably a race like the Caulfield Guineas could be his ultimate goal, but we'll wait and see because I've been wrong before in 20 years of racing, but my instincts tell me this is the one,"
