Well it would appear that the development phase of Hardwicks blueprint is over. Hardwick states in the video above that players will now have to earn games based on form rather than being given games based on potential.

Looks like there is going to be a rather drastic change in the way the side is selected from now on and quite frankly I don't mind it.

I see no reason anyone should be gifted games anyway but the heat will now be on the selection panel to justify playing players like Miller & Giffiths unless their preseason/coburg form warrants selection. Also could put some blokes under the pump to play consistent footy such as; Edwards, Connors, Tuck, Jackson, Post, Astbury..............

Looks like spots in the 22 will now finally be earned and cherished once they are rewarded:thumbsu:

The training wheels are off.

Now we find out whether we can match it with the big boys.

Rounds 1 to 4 are going to tell us a lot.

Good to see Dimma saying what needs to be said. Although as I'm sure he would realize this in turn puts pressure on Dimma himself.

Hardwick has had a relatively easy ride as a coach because the last administration left it in such a mess. He's done well to get the list into a respectable state but now he has to do something with it.

Personally I like the forward stance and I'm sure Hardwick will answer the challenge. He's the best coach we've had in quite along time IMO.

Talk is cheap Damian

If you wanted to send a warning, you should have delisted one of tuck or preferably jackson. Absolutely no need to have two players like that on a list, one is almost too many.

Seriously - Tuck could barely get a game all year as Jackson was taking his spot - and the still signed them both? What the hell is the point of having 2 C grade midfielders fighting for the one spot on the team

Delisting one of those two would have sent a genuine message to the group - Richmond just doesn't hand contracts out to unskilled players. Instead they give them both a new contract - and Jackson 2 years???

But he flinched, and gave in and that send a very definite message to the group. Damian really had a chance to raise the bar of "what is requried" at Richmond, and he totally flinched and kept it at the same bloody height it has been for 20 years.

What if one gets injured? Tuck can also play forward and back! Finals teams lists run to about 30-34 players.

Put your gun back in your pocket Astro.

Now that we've got the 500 games into the kids that was part 1 of the blueprint, I've got no problem with the change in direction. Perhaps if others had of remembered that was the plan from the start we wouldn't have had to have the discussions about whether the team should have been selected on merit or potential.

There could be a school of thought that another year of development could be I'm order but I'm happy we will be going flat to the boards next year. 9th here we come !

Wish we jagged a draw like North , Crows and Melbourne.

Who cares if one gets injured - they aren't up to it, period.

It's these types of player managing to play 200 games for the club that have developed the sub par culture and standard at the club.

What message does it send to the playing group that these type continue to get new contracts, purely because of a complete inability to develop something better?

It's time to toughen up Tigers. Its like Hislop getting another crack on the rookie spot last year, seriously why would you bother?

@astro toby although I agree Jackson and Tuck aren't ideal guys to have on the list I'd like you to consider the alternative. If we took at least one player off the list we'd then have our next pick in the 70's I think? In an already diluted draft from 17 yo concessions it really is waste of time having a rookie listed deserving player on the senior list when both Jackson and Tuck will contribute more to the teams overall performance in 2012 which according to Hardwick is what it's all about.

Through trade week we attempted to fill our most glaring weaknesses with a ruckman and a small defender.

This is our best list in quite some time IMO. Plenty of potential and improvement that could sneak us inside the top 8 hopefully.

On the list, or in the 22? In the 22, maybe.

If Tuck and Jackson were to be say our 34th and/or 35th best players on the list, I think we'd be travelling ok.

Not that I think that's the case right now, but it may well be the case some time in the next 18 months. It is up to the younger players (current and future) to make it that way.

I'd have thought enough players have been de-listed over the past 2-3 years to send this warning you're alluding to

Clearly you haven't seen Tuck's clearance work.

Could not agree more about Hislop and I think I'd qualify as the poster on this board that was the most against the decision to resign him last year.

As for Tuck and Jackson, Jackson worries me a little but really both have enough runs on the board and have definately worked hard enough not to be laughing stocks amongst the playing group and are perceived as getting a free ride. Both are actually poster child's for hard work , determination and getting the best out of themselves. Yes they don't have the silky skills of Chris Judd but both have the mind and body's to tag for 120min and as stated before Tuck can play in multiple positions.

It's not as if Hardwicks talked Troy Simmonds into going around one more year just to improve lettuce and tomato sales in local fruit and veg markets close to the G.

You'll get your wish Astro but you might have to wait another year or 2.

I'm wondering what you expect the delivering of this message to achieve?

The unskilled players to wake up to themselves and improve their skills?

...to realise the folly of their ways and pack up and go home now?

??

Some misguided points here Astroboy, if you follow the Tigers, you would know they were re signed due to body size and experience, and they don't play the same position.
Secondly, Tuck wasn't playing as Hardwick was and stated the aim for the last two years was to pump games into the kids, it was never about Tuck and his lack of ability.
Thirdly, as for raising the bar and what is required, pull your head out of your arse and take note of some things that are occuring at Tigerland. FTF, more detailed recruiting process, more coaches and off field support, an actual business plan, not to mention how the formentioned things i just stated will actually help "raise the bar", but i think you actually know that don't you;).

Hey some of us haven't always agreed with the 'blueprint' in the past.. We have a way to go before we can all start waxing lyrically about the clubs decsion making..

While you and others might not have agreed with blueprint from the start, one thing that can be said about us under Hardwick is we have stayed on course when it comes to following the blueprint. Step 1 was to get get games into the kids. Step 2 is to start focusing on winning games rather than development.

imo judds kicking is not silky. just about the best player in the league but is his kicking is not.

I think this is Hardwicks way of saying we are aiming for finals next year at all cost. Our list is in a position now where the majority of players should be capable of earning their spot. I would expect McGuane, White, Jackson, Edwards and Connors should be spending more time in the burgers because IMO they(except connors) were gifted games this year based on experience and maturity. I'd like to see Jackson start in the burgers and made to earn his spot on the senior team as a result of his poor end of season form. He needs a kick up the ass to realise he is not a gun footballer and there are lots of things he needs to improve. Hopefully this also means we will get a quality full season out of Tuck that should improve our midfield 10 fold.

It would also be interesting to see how the burgers would go with experienced players like Graham, Jackson, Edwards, White, Miller and McGuane as they would provide the necessary cover to allow our young players to play around them and develop in that manner because when they get called up to the senior team they will be playing more support roles to our guns and thus won't have to adjust their gameplay as much.

I just hope Hardwick can stick to his plan and play the best possible team not just most experienced.

Job wont ever be under threat next year but there will be some more heat if we are out of the finals race with two months to go again next year.

Even Bailey came under pressure in his third year and he had a license to fail until it hurt too bad.

Are we just going to inch our way upwards. My guess is that we will.

But wouldnt it be great if Dimma had that early Sheedy quality to really suprise us next year.
