All things harness boys.
We have the tipping based thread thru DMs thread and the Miracle Mile thread produced some good (yet sometimes violent) debates and opinions.
Whether it be Treuer Memorial, Victoria Cup, Interdominion or a Port Pirie R1-R2 discussion post it here!

Hey guys, i'm not a regular follower of NSW harness racing, but I was curious to know what has happened or not happened with Karloo Mick. He placed in an inter final 2 years ago, and i thought he would be a Grand Circuit player. But from my observations he's gone backwards. It seems he does most of his racing in the NSW bush. I backed him last friday night (not much), thinking he was good value, but he couldn't get much of a crack at them. Is he worth following? Does his trainer/driver get the most out of him?

Barry Lew trains them to be very tough, but can not drive. Classic example is Adelaide Inter consolation.
He is now 8 and hard too see him capturing his best again.
Thats not too say he has been disapointing. Just not as good as he can be. He has consistently been running placings behind Special Albert and MMS.
It would be nice too see the horse win a big race actually, 2nd in the Tassie Inter and on his consolation run could have won the Adelaide Inter.

NZ 5yo Gotta Go Cullen is heading to NSW and is in the Treur Memorial at Bankstown, drawn inside of the back row.
Iron Hudge draw the pole, Master Of Disguise in 2 and Divisive drawn 4 but the 3 is the emergency.

Not sure of the balance of the field.

Also does anyone know of some of Chandon's better performed progeny?

Happy you restarted this thread Carlton, it'll give the regulars a better avenue to place there thoughts.

On Karloo Mick, hes run a lot of super runs at the elite level but rarely wins unless he drops in grade. Hes just won of those horses.

Sales time

Im loathe to mention this but Ive had a couple of PM's so here we go.

APG Sales are fast approaching & with the recent downturn, its likely prices will be down here too.
Despite this,Melbourne is hosting two sales this year.....great huh?
Last years average was $14.7K

Premium Gold Sale:Friday evening 6 Feb (1st time & only 75 lots)
Melbourne Sale:Sunday 8 Feb

I go every year & for those who have never been, its worth seeing how it works, especially if you can tag along at the pre sale inspections.
Gives you a real appreciation of the standardbred.

Anyway, dont want to block up this thread with this so anyone who's keen,PM me & we'll take it from there

Thanks mate.
Just had a look on TesioPower, which needs to be updated.
From 210 starters (on Tesio record) his best apart from Henschke would have been, Jamestown 1.55.3 at Moonee Valley, Been In Trouble 1.53.9, Lombo Bella Petite, Lombo Afterburner, Chandon Princess, Intoxicating, Lisa Don, Slick Chandon.

Geeze Christian Cullen is a top sire. Worth every cent, he is far and away the best sire we have in A'asia.

But for $3500 Alabar have Village Jasper. He has been a brilliant sire imo. Half the horse on record have broken 2.00. Penny Veejay, Tip Your Hat, Blatant Lie, Village Swinger, Decorated Jasper while some nice 3yo fillies ie Nemeeshar, Bella Joy, Fususi.
He has 4 of the top20 horses in Australia at the moment while Blatant Lie would also be in the top20 if he was racing and fully sound!

At $30 000 NZ I dont think Cullen is worth every cent. Would much rather go to Mach Three.

Only been to one sale. At Echuca. Wasnt a good sale but still enjoyed it. Courage Under Fire's sister Erin Brokovich was in foal and was the main attraction I believe.

If you have a a good enough mare, $100'000earner multiple feature winner then Christian Cullen is worth it because if a half decent cross is their it will earn $100'000, Guaranteed. But for the rest of us, i guess.

Forgot about Mach Three. Auckland Reactor and Somebeachsomewhere absolutely cracks to start his siring career. Also had Fiery Falcon and Muscle Beach both top 3yos last season.

After those 4 it drops off a bit but I supoose he hasnt had many oppurtunities.

But $8250 is too expensive for me.

Thanks mate.

Although not with us anymore, I thought The Unicorn was one of, if not the best value stallion going around at the time. At the moment though, I have to agree, VJ is excellent value. We are going to him again next season. Bettors Delight this year.

Is this with the Decorated Jasper dam?
Best of luck anyway.
My family are sending one of their mares to Bettors Delight, Lisa Don.
That was why I asked on Chandon better performed to see the broodmare sires but there was no real commen link I could find apart from a small one thru Meadow Skipper.

I am loathe to tip horses, especially on here. But a mate has a horse running today at Horsham. He has had 0 luck with his horses over the years, but is an excellent horseman. He hasn't had a horse to the track for a long time, so I will be an interested onlooker. This horse is very well bred and has been trialling well recently. My mate tells me he'll need the run, but whatever he does, will improve on. It's name is Slatey Creek Road anyway, Race 6 Horse 1.

No. Wev'e got an unraced Perfect Art mare who had enormous ability. She beat a horse called Courtygaz at the trials one Sunday morning, and another handy one called Stood Up the following Sunday. Unfortunatly the week after she totally severed the tendons in her legs and we had to retire her before she even raced. **** I cried! And to make it worse, she used to make Decorated Jasper look stupid at home. Paul still maintains to this day, she is the best horse he's had. It's still no consolation. I'll do some homework on a good stallion for Lisa Don. It is a bit of a passion of mine, although I have'nt done it for a while. I'll get back to you CB.

Would I be right in saying he was a smart 2yo who went onto win a Kilmore Cup

Was a very good 2yo.

Was a good horse all his career actually, should have done better but for rarely having the serivces of a top class driver in the cart.

If I remember rightly he was going for the treble of big 2yo races in Vic but in the 3rd event(forget its name) Vin Knight and his mob had 3 in the final and they pretty much made sure Nicholas Branach never got a look in despite flashing home for 3rd.

That's how I got into harness.

Grandparents used to live in Hopetoun and behind their house was a lane, Conway would always drive the horses down the lane and down to the showgrounds to train.

Naturally for a young kid that was always a thrill.

I seen another tip around for Slatey Creek Road based on good trials. It would be great for the trainer to persist with the horse (7yo i think) and for him to have a win or two or a few. The horse has a half brother $100'000 and 1.59.5 so you never know!

Courtygaz was a good horse. Its always terrible to hear stories like yours. Keep on trying!

That would be fantastic, thanks mate.

That does sound logical actualy, is it based on her half sister by Jet Laag being able to run a bit?

Haha top stuff Smith :thumbsu:

News on Melpark Major is that his next start will be in the Victoria Cup. He will then have a couple days off, bypass Ballarat and Hunter Cups, and press onto the Inter.
Alan Tubbs is of the belief he races better fresh, hence 20day break after Legends Mile and 22day break leading into Victoria Cup.
Although I think he is tough as nails he may not be suited to the Inter where they race 3times in 3weeks - but if you think that is rough and ready the way it used to be formatted was extremely tough!

Theres a couple been sent to JL in the family, with great success. Also closely related to Swing Out Sister as well. Good family!
Yeah mate ,gotta keep tryin. Got rid of a few and had to knock back a few when we started having kids. Unfortunatly one of the ones i had to knock back was Decorated Jasper! Oh well. Hopefully i've kept the right one.

Shouldn't it be 3 runs in 2 weeks if he makes the final?

Thanks for that. How would you rate a matching with Life Sign?

You knocked back DJ ! You waiting for a Somebeachsomewhere type animal? lol

Yeh 3 in 2weeks. Think the dates are March14,21,28.
