I'm happy to admit that I am a Harry Potter tragic.

It's not finishing anyway, this is only part one of the final book that they've released. The other one should be about this time next year...

I'm actually quite interested to see how the Potter-mania holds up without the anticipation of a new book to raise interest in the movies.

Reckon one of these next two might flop.

Harry Potter was a great read until the oooo everyone lives happily ever after in rainbowland ending IMO.

Yes the movies have been fairly shit, but the books were so good that they ate all guaranteed to be box office hits.
I for one am re-reading the book this week and getting excited for Thursday.

And yes, it is a shame that the main actors can't act to save themselves. They are constanty covered for by the older characters - especially Alan Rickman (brilliant).

Good call. Worst epilogue ever.

Man that shit was hilarious.
Nineteen years later, Harry and Ginny Weasley are married and have three children: James Sirius, Albus Severus, and Lily Luna. Ron married Hermione and has two children, Rose and Hugo. The families meet at King's Cross station, where a nervous Albus is departing for his first year at Hogwarts. Harry's godson, Teddy Lupin, is found kissing Victoire Weasley (Bill and Fleur's daughter) in a train carriage. Harry sees Draco Malfoy and his wife Astoria Greengrass (revealed on Rowling's website behind the door) with their son, Scorpius. Neville Longbottom is now the Hogwarts Herbology professor and remains friends with the two families. Harry comforts Albus, who is worried he will be sorted into Slytherin, and tells his son that one of his two namesakes, Severus Snape, was a Slytherin and the bravest man he had ever met. He adds that the Sorting Hat takes one's choice into account, like it did for Harry. The book ends with these final words: "The scar had not pained Harry for nineteen years. All was well."

I grew up with Harry Potter and was one of the many thousands of kids that developed a love of reading from those books above any others...read the first two or three books when I was 11 or 12, now 24 and from about the 4th book onwards got each new book on the day it was released. Real nostalgic value for me. Agree that the movies are not up to the level of the books but I still find them enjoyable. I don't like to re-read any books before movie adaptations come out otherwise I find myself nitpicking too much, rather than seeing the movie as a separate entity.

Looking forward to Thursday!

Oh, god yes, that epilogue was atrocious. Ruined the book. Read like a piece of fan fiction written by a 14 year old.

As for the acting in the films, Alan Rickman is clearly the best. He's legendary. Snape is legendary. He basically makes the films watchable.

Maggie Smith as Professor McGonagall is also very good, and probably doesn't get the plaudits she deserves (outshone by Snape I guess).

Rupert Grint isn't too bad an actor either. Does the comic relief bits well, and is solid enough otherwise. Very few cringeworthy moments. Definitely the best of the three.

Emma Watson is a bad actress, with an annoying voice, and a large forehead. If it weren't for that, I'd be in love.

Daniel Radcliffe is a perfect example of why it's a bad idea to pick child actors out of the wilderness for a long term project. Not only is he the worst actor of the trio, in the words of my girlfriend, "he's REALLY ****ing ugly". And Daniel, if you're secretly an Australian Rules supporter and you read this, sorry mate. I'm sure you're a top bloke, and you took the piss out of yourself in Extras, which was good to see. :thumbsu:

The kid that plays Draco Malfoy goes alright.

Also, Michael Gambon is a brilliant actor, but he is just plain wrong for Dumbledore. He is too intense too much of the time. Richard Harris was much better, unfortunately. :(

Why the **** didnt she re-write that epilogue before publishing? It was quite obvious it was her first epilogue written around the time she came up with the Harry Potter concept and it absolutely reeked.

Let's not open up a black hole of plot-holes but why would Harry's son only just now realise that everyone looks at Harry when in public? Was Harry a hermit for 12 years before this?

Sir Ian Mckellen would have been a better Dumbledore after Harris died but he had his reasons for not taking the part.

Most of the old school british actors are very good. It's Radcliffe that is average. Grint and Watson are fine imo.

One thing that annoys the hell out of me, it's such a small thing, is why they keep cutting Radcliffe's hair. Harry's messy hair is meant to be one of his main features (like they had it in the 4th film) but for some reason they have a clean cut look in all the rest. Just a small issue but for some reason is seriously bugs me. [/harry potter nerd rant]
