Cheers TS.

Interesting topic this midyear trade period, personally I don't think it could work. with players contracted for entire seasons teams would be too quick to try and extort opposition teams for a player they might require, nobody would get traded in all likelihood.

The midyear trade window is great. Works in every other league in the world, but somehow not for the AFL? It's an opportunity not only for clubs but for players as well, and in some cases rather than writing off the year you can attempt to make a move that might turn your second half around.

Absolutely, in principle it's a great idea and opens opportunities for players & teams alike. I'd be stoked to see it happen, but I can just see the clubs although being in favour of it - not utilising it to it's full extent.

Yeah, there is that element in the AFL club administrations of always wanting to get something for nothing.

The mid-year trade window is inevitable esp. considering free agency is coming in (although limited). It allows a club to trade off a player who otherwise would have reached the end of the season and become a free agent and possibly left for nothing.

It is the worst idea that the AFL have come up with. Why the **** do they constantly have a need to change things!

All it does is allow teams who are 8th and there abouts to become artificially stronger and challenge the teams who did the hard work in the off season to have a good team. Do you really think it is fair right now if Hawthorn went and grabbed Hamish McIntosh and say Brian Lake (if he were in good form) for some draft picks, then beat Collingwood in the grand final? No, it wouldnt be.
