The season has only just finished and already there have been numerous incidents involving players, the ones I can think of are:

Keon Clark arrested on battery charges
Clark's father arrested for first degree murder
Kobe Bryant charged with rape
Jerry Stackhouse arrested for allegedly assaulting a real estate agent
Darrell Armstrong arrested for fighting with a female police officer
Damon Stoudamire arrested for carrying marijuana
Chris Webber's perjury trial
Sprewell's lawsuit against the New York Post
Antoine Walker been cleared of assault charges (from during the playoffs)
Charges upgraded against Cassell and Payton
Has been quite busy with player movement as well, which has made the offseason as far barely tolerable. Anyone think of any others?

Mass player movement and arrests... this is my kind of off-season. The icing on the cake is Kobe of course. Otherwise I don't see it as any different from those previous.

NEWARK, Ohio -- Free-agent forward Samaki Walker was charged with drunken driving after an accident earlier this month.

Walker, who spent the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, lost control of his vehicle about 20 miles east of Columbus on July 9, highway patrol dispatcher Pat Snelling said.

Walker's vehicle rolled over, partially ejecting him. He was treated at a hospital and later released. The hospital would not describe what, if any injuries, he sustained.

Walker told troopers he had two alcoholic drinks. Authorities are waiting for the results of a blood test. He was headed home when the accident happened.

He also was charged with failure to maintain control of a vehicle and not wearing a seat belt.

Oh, Samaki. Tool. :p

The stories just keep popping up, don't they?

NFL player fights NBA player

Around 1 a.m. Monday, Stacey Mack, a 1993 graduate of Boone High School and now with the NFL's Houston Texans, was escorted out of the Club at Firestone in downtown Orlando and given a trespassing warning by Orlando police not to return.

"I don't want this to be in the paper," Mack said as he was leaving with his entourage.

What Mack really didn't want in the newspaper is what happened the previous week when he and Magic forward Drew Gooden got into a fight, according to the owner of the dance club at 578 N. Orange Ave. and representatives for both players.

"I don't put up with that at my club. If you fight, use drugs, whatever, you're kicked out for good," said Jan Harrold, who has owned the club -- which plays a variety of music, including hip-hop -- for 11 years. "I'm not letting anyone at my club talk. It has to come from the horse's mouth, and I'm the horse."

That night already was strange enough, because around 2 a.m., Magic player Darrell Armstrong was arrested outside the nightclub and charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest without violence.

But nothing has been reported about what happened an hour earlier, involving Gooden and Mack.

Here's the account, according to Harrold and the representatives:

On July 7, Gooden, several NBA players and other patrons were partying on the second floor of the dance club, in an area reserved for VIPs. Mack, who played four years with the Jacksonville Jaguars before signing with the Texans, also was in the VIP area with his friends.

Around 1 a.m., Harrold said, Gooden -- 21, 6 feet 10 and 230 pounds -- and Mack -- 29, 6 feet 1 and 238 pounds -- got into a fight, actually a lot of pushing and shoving. Barstools were thrown and carafes of drinks were thrown, according to patrons on hand.

Operations manager Chris "Tiny" Groce, who weighs about 400 pounds, separated the players, Harrold said. As each athlete went to the opposite side of the bar, Gooden picked up an ashtray and tried to throw it at Mack, Harrold said.

As Gooden reached back, he hit Groce in the head with the ashtray.

Orlando police responded and issued a trespass warning to Gooden, meaning he was kicked off the property and told not to return. The report stated the reason as "fighting in club -- throwing chairs and ashtray." At the time, Mack wasn't cited. He was just told to leave.

The Magic had no comment on the new allegations, team spokesman Joel Glass said. Last Tuesday, Gooden admitted to being at the nightclub but said, "I'm not talking about anything that night."

But Monday afternoon, Gooden's agent, Calvin Andrews, said, "It wasn't that big of a deal. Stacey was out of line for what he did. He threw something at Drew. Then Drew threw something back. It didn't come to fisticuffs. It's an unfortunate situation. I didn't see it happen, though. It sounds a little ridiculous. It really wasn't fighting. A chair was thrown at him [Gooden]. He threw an ashtray at a guy. It wasn't a big fight or a big ruckus. Please don't take this way out of context."

Andrews continued, "I'm wondering what kind of problem Stacey has with Drew? Whatever it is, does that justify him throwing a barstool at Drew?"

After receiving his citation Monday when he returned to the club, Mack didn't comment any further.

But Mack's agent, Tim McGee, said, "Hey, no fists were thrown. It was a case of boys being boys. My chest hair is bigger than your chest hair. Let's keep this in perspective."

But the real concern is for Groce, who was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center early that morning. He had magnetic resonance imaging on his head and was released. Groce hasn't been back at work since then. Reached last night, Groce said, "I can't comment on anything."

But Harrold did.

"Tiny has a concussion. He has a bunch of medical bills," Harrold said. "It's up to Tiny to decide whether he wants to file charges. It's a very serious thing. You know that a concussion could lead to a blood clot -- which, you know, could kill him."

Gooden's agent, Andrews, said his client didn't know he had hit anyone. "According to what Drew told me, he just grazed the bouncer in the head. This is so weird. Drew doesn't even remember hitting the guy."

Mack's agent, McGee, said, "Stacey didn't know someone got hurt. He thought it wasn't a big deal. He was escorted out by someone, who was trying to calm everyone down."

And that person?

"Darrell Armstrong."

And don't forget the new addition to the Wizards

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- Gilbert Arenas, the soon-to-be-former Golden State Warrior, has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor weapons and vehicle charges. Arenas wasn't in the San Mateo County courtroom tuesday as his attorney entered the plea on behalf of the 21-year-old point guard. Arenas faces charges of possessing a concealed weapon and driving without a license. His troubles stem from a traffic stop in South San Francisco on June 4.

Chris Webber's perjury trial

This is one that has slipped under the radar a bit ,but is a pretty serious issue.

Just a thought. What would happen if Wbber got convicted for say "4" years.Would the Kings get back his salary-cap space back.I remember when Bobby Phills died and the Hornets tried to get his cap-space back and the NBA refused.

I am not sure about whther or not they would get the salary space back but I sure I read somewhere that Webber will not go to jail. He is expected to pay a fine. I think I read that a couple of weeks ago but I cannot remember where:(

Jerry Stackhouse arrested for allegedly assaulting a real estate agent

charges against stackhouse have been dropped...

Stackhouse, a native of Kinston, was renting a house near the coast July 13 when he and his guests were told they had to leave the property. Stackhouse apparently believed he had rented it for another day, police said.

He was charged with grabbing Nagy ``around the neck and taking her to the ground,'' according to an arrest warrant.

Stackhouse had called the incident ``an unfortunate misunderstanding,'' and told The Washington Post that there was ``unintentional contact'' when he tried to grab the copy of the lease from Nagy.

McFadyen said he believed Stackhouse's conduct ``was not intended to be an intentional assault.''

Yah I read that too, I think the major charges against him were dropped or he pleaded guilty to much less severe charges, either way it looks pretty set that he'll avoid jail time.

Kobe on the other hand....

You would think that kobe would stand down from playing whilest this circus is going on.It couldnt be good for the team with all attention, especially with Malone and Payton joining up.He could train by himself and if he gets aquitted he would only lose a month or two and would be fresh for the play-offs.

If he gets convicted, well he wont be needing too much fitness in the big house.........

Kobe's trial date is Oct 11. Which is only the first week of pre-season, and about a month before the real stuff starts.

It will be dealt with before the season proper starts.

Former Sparks Player Investigated For Allegedly Sexual Assaulting Teammate
Player Allegedly r*ped By Attackers With Suspect

UPDATED: 9:58 a.m. PDT August 13, 2003

LOS ANGELES -- Authorities are investigating a former Los Angeles Sparks player for allegations she sexually assaulted a teammate, according to media reports.

An active investigation is under way against Latasha Byears, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. No charges have been filed, but arrests are reportedly imminent.

Byears, who was released by the two-time defending Women's National Basketball Association champions June 10, could not be reached for comment and the team reportedly declined comment.

The alleged incident occurred at a party following a June 5 game against Sacramento at Staples Center, the station reported. A Sparks player reportedly was attacked by Byears and three men, who have no connection with the team.

The men allegedly r*ped the player and Byears allegedly penetrated the player with an object described as a sex toy, media reports stated.

Pictures of the alleged attack were taken by a cellular telephone camera and e-mailed to other people, one source said.

Sheriff's deputies declined to discuss the case.

Just found this article. Its going to be a long season for the Lakers

Typical schedule would start trial in March

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ESPN.com news services

EAGLE, Colo. -- If Kobe Bryant is treated like any other defendant, as the Eagle County prosecutor has maintained he will be, then Bryant's basketball schedule could be impacted considerably.

Bryant is scheduled to return to Eagle for his preliminary hearing on Oct. 9, and legal experts told the Washington Post that Colorado felony cases generally come to trial five to six months after that hearing, the paper reported in Wednesday's editions.

If that schedule holds, Bryant could find himself in court, rather than on the court, as the NBA regular season winds down. The Lakers' regular season finale is April 14, and the trial could impact the Lakers' playoff hopes.

By state law, the trial must start within six months, unless the defendant agrees to further delays. Even if the trial is postponed until after the NBA season, however, Bryant could suffer some basketball ramifications.

The Lakers, one of the preseason favorites to win the 2003-04 NBA title, could be playing well into June if they advance deep into the playoffs. The 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, for which Bryant currently is a member of the U.S. basketball team, begin August 13. Bryant's participation in the Games clearly could be compromised by a trial that began after the NBA season

"Trials get delayed for a lot of reasons," said Craig Silverman, a defense attorney and former prosecutor in Denver, to the Post. "But it's hard to imagine a way this trial could be delayed beyond the season, beyond the playoffs, and beyond the Olympics."

Bryant's next step is mandatory attendance at the preliminary hearing, which comes in the middle of the Lakers' preseason schedule and could force him to miss some action.

After the preliminary hearing will come Bryant's arraignment, which must occur by Nov. 8, and for which Bryant must be present. At that session, Bryant will enter his formal plea and the judge will set a trial date. The Lakers have five games in the first week of November.

Kwami Brown Arrested For DUI

NBA Player Stopped Driving Hummer Early Friday Morning

POSTED: 5:06 p.m. EDT August 15, 2003

Brunswick's own basketball star is in trouble with the law again.

Glynn County police told Channel 4 that Kwami Brown, 21, was arrested for DUI, failure to maintain a proper lane and having an open container of alcohol in the car.

Authorities said Brown was pulled over driving a Hummer at about 3 a.m. Friday morning on Spur 25 near the Glynco Parkway. Brown was booked into jail, but was released on bond.

A Glynn Academy standout, Brown made history when he was the Washington Wizards first-round draft pick in 2001 -- the first high school student ever picked first in the NBA draft.

He signed a $11.9 million contract with the team.

In May 2001, Shortly after Brown signed with the Wizards, he was stopped at what police say was 120 mph on Interstate 16. Reports at the time said he lost his license, and it's not known if it was reinstated.

Was just about to mention Kwames DUI. I hope the Washington bus service is good, wouldn't want him late for his games :D

armstrong could be sharing a cell with kobe if this gets any worse.

NEW ORLEANS -- Florida prosecutors filed felony charges Wednesday against New Orleans Hornets player Darrell Armstrong, who was accused of slapping away the hand of a female police officer as she ordered him off a street outside an Orlando, Fla., nightclub.

Armstrong's defense lawyer, Zachary E. Stoumbos, said Armstrong would vigorously fight the charge of battery on a police officer, which carries a maximum of five years in prison. Armstrong also was formally charged with resisting arrest without violence, a misdemeanor.

The fines would mean nothing. Give him a couple of weeks of pre season in general population. He`ll come out a new man.;)

SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) -- Jason Richardson of the Golden State Warriors was convicted Thursday of a misdemeanor domestic violence charge stemming from an assault on his ex-girlfriend.

Roshonda Jacqmain testified Wednesday that Richardson, 22, pushed her so hard that she fell and struck her head against a wall, putting a large hole in it. The incident took place April 29 at Jacqmain's apartment, where Richardson had gone to pick up their 3-year-old daughter.

The 6-foot-6, 220-pound Richardson, a Saginaw native who left Michigan State after his sophomore season to turn pro, testified that he was acting in self-defense, according to The Saginaw News.

The trial began Wednesday. The jury deliberated 1 1/2 hours before reaching its verdict, Saginaw County Prosecutor Michael Thomas said.

Richardson remained free on bond pending a sentencing hearing, which was not immediately scheduled, Thomas said. Richardson faces up to 93 days in jail and $500 in fines.

A message seeking comment from Richardson's attorney, Jeffery Taylor, was left at his Southfield office.

A two-year starter for the Warriors, Richardson averaged 15.6 points and 4.6 rebounds last season.

Continuing the fine OFF season...

FORMER PISTON Darrell Walker was accused of attacking another golfer with two clubs after the man asked to play through at a country club in Little Rock, Ark.

Dr. Carl Johnson said Walker cut his right elbow and broke a bone Sunday, according to the police report.

The two men argued after Walker wouldn't let Johnson and his party play through, police said. Johnson said Walker pushed him to the ground, grabbed two golf clubs and hit him on the arm.

Why would you give him a 5-year contract in the first place. Well, they are the Blazers...

Patterson requests trade
Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) _ Reserve forward Ruben Patterson has asked the Portland Trail Blazers to trade him, according to a published report.

But Portland general manager John Nash told The Oregonian that Patterson will be tough to trade because he has four years left on his contract.

``Because of the length of his contract and the nature of his contract, there doesn't seem to be a great deal of interest,'' Nash said. ``I've explained to Ruben it's very likely that he will not be traded.''

Patterson could not be reached for comment. He played in 78 games last season, averaging 8.3 points. He is scheduled to earn $5.45 million next season.

Like many Trail Blazers, Patterson has had his share of troubles off the court. He is a registered sex offender in Oregon, resulting from a 2001 case in which he entered a modified guilty plea to charges he sexually assaulted his children's nanny while playing for Seattle.

He also faced domestic abuse charges since coming to the Blazers, but those charges were dropped.

At a practice last season, Patterson suffered a broken eye socket when teammate Zach Randolph punched him.

Oh, and Dennis Rodman was arrested. Again.

eddie griffin...

a player who has infuriated me in fantasy basketball...

HOUSTON (AP) -- Suspended Rockets forward Eddie Griffin is being investigated by police, who were told the player beat and shot at a woman at his home.

No warrant had been issued for Griffin's arrest and police haven't found him, police spokesman Alvin Wright said Saturday. He said police just want to get a statement from Griffin.

Joann Romero, 21, alleged in a call to police early Saturday that Griffin had punched her and shot at her, Wright said. She was treated at a hospital for facial injuries, he said.
