Australia has won the third Under 17 International Rules Series Test, defeating Ireland by 15 points at Fremantle Oval on Wednesday. The victory was the first in the series after the first two Tests ended in ties.
Australia jumped the Irish in the first quarter to lead by 12 points and retained the lead throughout the match. Ireland bounced back in the final quarter to score 17 points, but it wasn't enough to catch the Australians.
Australian captain Chris Masten and Bryce Gibbs were again impressive in the midfield, while David Myers was impassable in defence.
AFL National Talent Manager Kevin Sheehan described match as the best performance in a decade of International Rules matches at youth level.
"It was a great example of how the game can be played, it was tough, skillful with great sportsmanship," Sheehan said.
Barassi Medals, recognising the best and fairest players in each team, were awarded to Australia's David Myers and Ireland's Pearce Hanley.
Australia now holds the Peter McDermott Cup after Ireland won the last three series.
