West Coast and Collingwood appear certain to cement a deal in which Andrew Williams returns to Melbourne to join the Magpies in exchange for midfielder Damien Adkins joining the Eagles.

St Kilda will decide on Monday whether to offer West Coast a second-round draft pick for promising Eagles contracted flanker David Haynes, a first-round national draft selection in 1999 from the Geelong Falcons.

Guess if Williams and Haynes both end up going, Embley is almost a dead cert to be playing off half-forward for a large part of the year.

Inconsistent half forward flanker, but has shown in the final against Essendon that he can play HB and wing.

Tall (188cm), stocky, kicks like a mule. Its between the ears where he goes wrong.

haynes has been hot and cold for us since the beginning.

i think we will see embley as a permanent fixture in our teams line up next year. it has got to be make or break time for andrew.

The "midfield obsessed" thread has a discussion on the way Woosha is building the side.

I suspect the midfield issue has a bearing on why Williams and Haynes are being mentioned in trade talks. Last year we had one too many HFFs in the team and one too few running midfielders/wingers. The only games where having 2 of Embley, Haynes and Williams worked well was if we had a ridiculous amount of possession (ie big home wins at Subi).

So I'm suggesting that Woosha can see a place for one, probably Embley, but whoever else plays has to be able to cover more ground in the midfield or on a wing - hence the acquisition of Chick and the possibility of Adkins (if fit) and Woewodin (though I'd be surprised if we can afford him).

Grinding out away wins is Woosha's next challenge and I think he wants to stack the side with people who will win the ball and use it well. Also, that fits perfectly with warmer weather footy at Subi for most of the year, especially with our underrated younger talls coming through up forward.

Out of the three half forward flankers that were in-and-out of the side all last year, I would definitely rate Embers as the one most likely to make the grade.

Trading the other two (Williams & Haynes) is a pretty good move, imho. It puts the emphasis back onto Embley, shows him that the coach has some real faith in him, and allows us to add a couple of good players to the list.

Perhaps they can trade that second round pick to the Dockers for Troy Longmuir?
