First comment - Jack must do a preseason with the midfielders and he should play in the middle next year. Watching him in the Under 18's and the way he moves in AFL I have thought about this before and I think its a good idea. Not big enough as Key Position. He could be a very damaging attacking midfielder. He is just a such a smart footballer, great evasive skills and mark. Similar size as Dunn from Melbourne but will be better than him. The Dees drafted Dunn as a Key forward but then moved him in the middle as he is not big enough for Key Forward.

Second Comment, tambling in defence. Why not try it. We have complained so many times that we dont have any half backs or back pocket that provides as with run and skill. Lets give him a crack, pressure will be off him and he can attack the ball from half back, use his pace & create. The expecation of him getting 20 times in the middle will not be there and I think he will thrive on it.
His last quarter was great. Good sides have skillfull half backs.

If the above occurs it places more emphasis on us drafting a key forward with our first pick. I hope Jack Watts is available.
Thoughts...

Was listening to SEN Aker couldn't stop talking about tambling and playing well in defence it was as if he was utterly shocked that tambling played well.

JR is only 1 cm shorter than his cousin who is a pretty handy KPP i think he looks shorter than he is and he moves as well as his cuz, if they can develop his stamina there is no reason he can't be a very similar player as a lead up high forward

Spot on :thumbsu:

Jack is three centimetres shorter than Richo - an inch and a quarter for the old blokes. Probably makes a difference but wouldn't be much. Guess what? He's twenty years old! We need to develop a KPP now because number 12 aint gonna be there much past 2009, maybe 2010.

So why not Jack? Give him game time, get the experts to help with the craft and keep putting on size each year. There's no reason he can't be a good full forward.

Tambling off the half back. I like it because it compliments Foley, Lids and Cotchin in the midfield and with his pace he should be able to cut them up. My only problem would be awareness. He's going to need to cover his opponent when required but this can be taught.

he has said in an article that at the moment he's happy to play the flanker role but would oneday like to be the main man in the forwardline.

he is taller then his cuz, he was talking about it after the St Kilda game he said that back to back he is taller but nick has about 20 kilos on him.

tambling off half back works for me - reiwoldt will be a great HF player - perhaps we should try at some stage this season reiwoldt at CHF and pattison as a HFF, & hughes at FF - would cause some difficult match up

just a thought - more a free roaming HFF - his biggest asset is his motor tank, so we need to find a way to use that.

- i don;t like ruckman that arent any good at tap ruck work - so i think a new position needs to be found for him. B playing he and reiwoldt alongside each other around half forward - it means that reiwoldt will probably be able to get some more room to lead into, and get one on ones with his opponent.

i realise his pattos lack of speed is a worry - but if we can work on his hands ( as i dont think he has a very good grab on him) i think we can play he and reiwoldt alongside each other around the HF line and both have the motor to run all day and strength to win contested marks .

its pretty leftfield i know - but the fact that we seem to have two blokes who are meant to be KP forwards - but arent either strong enough or fast enough to fill the role - just wonder if we could play them both alongside each other - if it would cause match up problems for opponents defences - obviously though, doing it against a side with a deadly running backline would be suicide.

Reiwoldt's a key forward of the O'Loughlin variety who can find space and will be a very tough matchup eventually with that combination of burst leads, strong contested marking and smart play at ground level and on the overlap. Highly unlikely to be wanted or needed in the centre beyond a very occasional rotation.

One of Tambling's best assets is his awareness and speed in a pack...he's a fast inside mid with good skill...they're like gold, you don't use only half their talent playing them off half-back. Besides which, if we played him off half-back he'd cop a succession of forward taggers dragging him to full-back and virtually taking him out of the game ala Heath Shaw.

Like a stopped clock, Healey got one thing right, Colin Garland is a gem, I was gutted we couldn't pick him up...was praying he lasted to 58-60. He'll show up a lot of 1st and 2nd rounders over the next few years.

I'd prefer Tambling to keep chugging away in the midfield, however if he is have a poor game, it's a smart plan to move him to the HBF to get him more involved.

He should also be used as an option on the best small foward if there having a good game.

I would like to see Jack played like R Murphy or Tarrant. A high leading half forward. He doesn't have the size to play key forward deep in the forward line as he can't break packs and isn't strong enough to hold out 2/3 backs to bring the ball to ground at the moment. Also it would be a waste of his obvious ability to use the ball and his awareness with the ball. Jack will be wasted in the AFL playing at full forward. Let him deliver it into the 50 and then double back on the overlap to be a dangerous option - not the option. The other thing he could do is play the Richo role. Start him on the wing and he can go forwards and back. He will be a good player if we don't try and do what Collingwood did to Tarrant! I think Richmond know this as the recruiters compared him to Taz when they drafted him.

Tambling - a little less clear cut - his run off the back line made us look like a far better side yesterday. He could play the Johncock/Mcleod/Burgoyne role - play him back/mid/forward depending on what the game demands. Just because he can do one or the other doesn't mean that he should be pidgeon holed. I like the fluidity with the positions. Shulz didn't have the greatest game yesterday but with the absence of a key forward for Melbourne he went forward and did some good things (ignoring his inability to finish). Same with Polak - can swing forward or back. Good sides have players who are capable of playing a variety of roles.
