did not see it, but went 9/14 from the arc, not gun shy eh.
Yeah, he took some bad shots in the tourney, but partly it was a product of the offense not working and the shot clock counting down.
The offense worked best when he was running the point pasing and penetrating, and our offensive sets struggled all tournament. Combination of things, mainly not having the talent, and also the coaching, thus heal hat to shoot many bail out shots with the lock running out.
I am no apologist of Heal, but he is one of a few world class players we have.Pity Rillie and Maher did not see more time, though it is probably a case of having such an even balance of players, who all struggle to cut it on the int'l stage. Thing is Rillie and Maher are pushing 31, and then there is Bruton, whose development stalled 5 years ago. Black might have been an option, like some on this forum were suggesting.
Gorj was happy to play favorites and give Smith big minutes, and tho he hit from the perimeter in the last two gaems, I have never rated him as a shooter, and his high percentage is virtue of the Steve Kerr syndrome, that is, by being wide open. He cannot create his own shot and struggles to shoot against defense, unlike Rillie. Remember Robert Sibley won a Tigers shootout with a perfect 25/25 threes. Need to be able to knock it down off the dribble, and in the face of defenders without the dribble. He is a catch and shoot man.
Similarly Saville, tho he was finding his range in the final game, and was aggressive, but I do not rate him either
. Though he has developed from a guy who could not make the national under 23 team, and was behind Matt Shanahan even on the cut, to representing us at the Olympics, so hats off to him.
Ok, do not know where I am going with this post so I will shut up
