I heard a story last night from a Carlton insider that Heath Scotland was suppose to captain Carlton last weekend in their current method or rotating captains whilst Lance is injured.

Apparently two days before the game Heath approached Dennis and told him he did not want to do it, thus Kade Simpson was given the job again.

I've always wondered why we didn't hold onto Heath Scotland but this may very well be a side of the footballer we don't see. Carlton are crying out for any kind of leadership and this is a very ordinary act IMO.

He is also a negative influence on the younger players. It is only a positive that we got rid of him.

If my memory serves me correctly, he wanted to go. He wanted more time in the guts and at that stage MM couldn't gaurentee anything, so he asked to be traded. In hindsight you'd pick him in front of Woey but I have no regrets with Scotland. He racks up a lot of possies but I've never thought hes a player that hurts you that bad.

I think Scotland was a decent player who did the right thing by the Pies: he wanted more playing time than our system allowed.

He asked to be traded, we couldn't cut a deal, and rather than spit it and nominate for the pre-season, he played for another year (good footy too) and we got a trade for him.

I don't the "he left, lets slag him" game. Its very St Kilda.

I knew Heaths step brother and he always said he never knew if he was in the side from week to week,so he could never get settled into the team.

In the end he just wanted to go somewhere he could have a regular spot so i never begrudged him that

I always like Scotland. He had good skills on both sides of his body. Surely people here will agree we missed him in 2004-05 when injuries exposed a very young list at the time. I felt we should have asked a lot more for him when we traded him. All we got as return was pick #34. This I believe was Billy Morrison.

He wasn't always given the amount of playing time he deserved. This made him struggle. After all, what does it do to your confidence when you go from Interchange to Midfield to Half Back to Interchange to Williamstown. As I mentioned before, I think we missed him at the time we let him go, 04-5, but now he wouldn't fit into our midfield structure.

By the time he decided to go he was definitely a regular in the team. But I think the horse had bolted - his relationship with Malthouse was beyond repair.

The leadership story is interesting, and definitely he's not a natural leader and a bit of a problem to manage. But he did the right thing by the Pies, we did the right thing by him, and who cares about him now that he's at Carlton.

He was the trade bait to get Nick Stevens. We would have got more for him if they were not so pig-headed. Perhaps we got dudded a bit in the end because we ran out of time.

I wish. Billy was pick #17 or #18 IIRC. *sigh*

I always thought reasonably highly of Scotland on the field, and didn't begrudge him a move to get more opportunity. The off-field stuff I don't know enough about, and hence don't buy into it.

i liked him and felt we gave him away too cheap.

The old 'cheap kicks' call that gets rolledout is as stupid as Carlton supporters saying Heater gets cheap kicks. Scotland is a good player and would be in our best 22 if he were on our list.

I agree with this 100%
He would be a DEFINATE starter IF he was still around
I was sorry to see him go

I liked him and he would have added to our midfield depth which we are developing but don't have like the Cats/Eagles, etc.

scotland is a very good player. I actually rate him higher than stevens. I think he gets in better possies than stevens and goes a bit more direct when he gets it. Has been close to there best player over the last 3 years. I thought he did not get a fair go at the pies. when he was on the ground he racked them up but he did not get enough game time.

That said Nick Stevens desperately wanted to come to Collingwood Carlton ended up with Nick Stevens and Heath Scotland so you are right we were dudded.

I did mention we got Billy Morrison out the trade at pick #34. Pretty sure I was wrong, I think it may have been Brent Hall and it was pick #35.
