News time.

Heavy Rain dated for February release

One of the biggest and most mysterious PS3 titles has been Heavy Rain. After being unveiled around the time of the PS3s introduction, the title vanished for several years never to been seen again until just this past year. With the sudden surge of new information also came a surge of hype. Utilizing new concepts of character interaction, Heavy Rain is going for something totally unique and the release date of the title is sooner than one expected.

Famitsu is reporting a February 18th release in Japan, which means a North American release date will surely be around the same time, too. Though Sony America hasn't formally announced a date, it's been assumed it'll be in the opening months of 2010. Hopefully, this means we'll also have a February release date to coincide with the Japanese release.

I don't usually care about covers, but this looks fantastic.

Yeah the first cover is better.
Yeah, I can't stand the paper being in the background on the US one, plus I like the writing being smudged in the EU one as well as the RAIN being a more focal point of the EU cover too. The EU one almost gives you the feel of what the game will be, dark, brutal and full of rain. :p

Interesting to note the PSN sign on the US version too, wonder if that's just a regular template (like happened with R&C, which had no PSN connectivity) or is showing that this will have some form of PSN connectivity (as David Cage has said there would but never expanded on).

On a more unrelated matter I really like the new PS3 bar at the top, looks so much better with new games IMO.

Hands-on of the opening chapters of Heavy Rain.

HEAVY RAIN HANDS-ON
There's perhaps no more curious a game headed to the PlayStation 3 than Heavy Rain. Its story-heavy gameplay is based on contextual actions rather than a never-changing control scheme, your choices directly reflect how the game is played out, and it's even possible to have main, playable characters die off and still have the story come to some sort of conclusion. In short, it's an experiment in interactive storytelling and we can't wait to play through it.

While we'll have to wait a couple more months to play from beginning to end, Sony recently sent us a preview build featuring the first 11 chapters of the game (out of 60+ from what we understand). All four main playable characters make an appearance here and there's a fairly wide variety of gameplay to be seen in the build.

Another hands on at GiantBomb (Better site than IGN :)).

A Procedural Downpour: Heavy Rain Hands-On

Much has been made about the recent resurgence of the traditional adventure game, though it's a format that Parisian developer Quantic Dream never really abandoned. Its cult-favorite Indigo Prophecy (maybe called Fahrenheit in your neck of the woods) brought a level of cinematic detail and mechanical ingenuity to the genre at a time when "adventure game" was tantamount to a dirty word. Quantic Dream's been making a lot of big promises with its follow-up, Heavy Rain, starting with an impressive early PS3 tech demo that boasted a level of grimy realism and jittery tension few games would dare aim for. Giant Bomb recently received a pre-release build of the game which I dove into immediately. It's not without some odd angles, but I can safely say I've never played anything quite like it, and I'm eager to see more.

Wow, this game visually looks insane. However, I think it would be one of those games that could get boring pretty quickly. It looks like it'll be a long game as well.

Well you're wrong.

Play Farenheit on PS2, it's by the same makers and sort of the same game.

It won't get boring very quickly.

Did you pick up Farenheit for PS2 or Xbox scooter?
Nah, I was going to download it on PC though.
I didn't get around to it but I managed to watch most of a playthrough on youtube.

Didn't look too appealing, TBH. But I guess making your own decisions is where most of the satisfaction comes from.

Demonoid is back up so I might give it a shot in a few days.
