help! All media players lost vision...

I'm using my nephew's computer, and I've got three days to get this fixed before he returns. It was working fine, but now all my media players - winamp, windows media player and irfanview, they all will play an mpeg or avi, and the sound works, but no vision comes up. I just get a deep purple/black screen.

Does anyone have a clue as to what's going on here?

Sounds like the video codec has been killed off. What have you installed recently?

Mr eagle is probably right, although it could even be a problem with directX.

The most likely codecs you'll need can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx and http://download.divx.com/divx/DivX511Bundle.exe.

If installing these (and it won't hurt to install) doesn't fix it, try reinstalling directX from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/
