Hi all,

I've recently moved house and changed ISPs and for the first time in my life I have high speed broadband at home. But since I've moved I've also encountered a problem with my browser not recognising I have Flash installed. I'll access a website that uses it and it will load slightly then just spin its wheels until it times out. It will give me a message saying I need to install the latest version of Flash player, which I've done about ten times now.
Here's what I've done:
  • I've uninstalled and reinstalled Flash,
  • I've uninstalled the browser version and installed the stand alone version of Flash,
  • I've uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox,
  • I've installed Opera.
  • I've attempted to clear my Flash cache but can't because you need Flash to be operating in order to access the control panel
I've also checked the settings on my spyware software (Hitman Pro), I've checked Adblock Plus and Script Blocker, I've checked Norton Antivirus and none of them appear to have anything that would be causing the problem as far as I can tell.

Anyone with any ideas? I want my YouTube and online live streaming.

Tried it with IE?

When you uninstall Flash using the above method do a reboot of your PC before reinstalling.

And don't reinstall using a file on your PC. Open Firefox and go to a page that says you need it and follow the links from there.

Thanks for the hints, gents. I have the uninstaller but I've not tried shutting down then going through the links on Firefox.

I avoid IE because for some reason Naughton refuses to allow it to open telling me it will do something horrible to my computer. I don't know if it has some horrible virus that doesn't affect other browsers but having run every single security program I can think of looking for the fault but nothing ever comes up.

When you go into the about: part of Firefox does it say that the flash is installed?

I'm at a complete loss otherwise. Try asking it at the Mozilla forum.

I'm still trying to figure this out.

Some Flash sites can load, like Weebls-stuff, but when I go to load YouTube it loads the YouTube part then when it goes to load the s.ytimg.com part it just spins its wheels. It's set to allow on No Script and I don't have any other program I can think of that would be preventing it from loading.

This is driving me insane.
