Hi All,

Sorry to intrude but i was looking for advice on how to get to Adelaide oval from city center using any available public transport. Me personally i'd prefer to walk , but i will have two elderly ladies with us who quite simply cannot do it due to various ailments and old age.

I will be there in two weeks to most likely watch the Eagles get pantsed. Any advice would be much appreciated

The Oval is not far from the city centre, depending on your starting point it could be as little as a couple hundred metres.

The best public transport option is the tram which runs down king William st (the central north-south thoroughfare in the city). It stops outside the train station on north terrace and you can walk through the train station and across the footbridge over the river to the ground.

The team is free within the city.

Hi,

The Adelaide Oval is just across the footbridge from North Terrace.

The closest public transport can drop you off is either North Terrace, or if you're coming into the city from abroad, you can get dropped off on King William Street via the Footy Express bus. However, there will still be a minimum walk of around 500m.

Any tram can drop you off to North Terrace, and is FREE with your Footy ticket. Once you get dropped off on North Terrace, follow the crowd through the train station to the Oval.

Hope you enjoy our marvellous Adelaide Oval. Good luck with getting there! :)

Catch a cab, won't cost much and will be infinitely better for your two elderly ladies.

Agree with this, ten bucks each way which is nothing compared to listening to two women complain for hours afterwards ( no disrespect but I know women and they all love chocolate and complaining)

Yep, this. Depending on where your seats are get them to drop you on war memorial drive (southern end or members) or king William st (eastern stand or northern end/the hill)

City center? You staying in a hotel? If so take the advice of the other posters and call a cab

I've actually not paid any attention to this, as I've just caught a train in every time and walked straight across the footbridge, but is King William Street open to anything other than buses before the game?

I want to know how elderly is elderly (says she as she braces herself).

Both are late 60's, one is my mum and one is a friend. The friend is waiting on 2 hip replacements and my mum has had surgery on nerves in her back which still causes problems.

Going on what everyone has told me i will put them both in a cab, and myself and my wife will walk to the ground.

Thanks all for the advice, it is much appreciated, all you need to do now is make sure the Crows players don't turn up on the day at full steam and will be real happy.

No hotel, just a day trip from Melbourne, we'll be in the city, got super cheap flights earlier in the year with Jetstar.

Will be doing the cab option for them, myself will be walking with the natives, more enjoyable that way.

Really looking forward to going to a game at Adelaide oval, after watching a few on TV.

Such a short distance that a Cab driver may refuse. They have done that to me when wanting to catch it within city to city. COuld you hire some wheelchairs

I have been left high and dry too many times by cabbies when iv'e booked a short distance trip.
Just book the cab saying you are going to Gawler - you will get one instantly, then as you are travelling past war memorial drive, politely tell the cabbie you've changed your mind and would like to get out here!

I have never understood that on a trip that short they would make far more per KM and are still in the city able to do another trip straight away

Also there are little golf carts that operate along the closed off section of War Memorial Drive on game day to take people up to the gates for those that have issues with walking. Mostly these are people heading over to the Members side, but depending on where your tickets are and which gate you are going in, that could also help with mobility issues.

Because a lot of cabbies have to give half of their fares to the owner which means a trip like this will likely make them $6 personally. Also by making this short trip they have lost their spot in the cab ranks which they sometimes wait in for over an hour or simply miss out on a job they could have picked up over the radio/scanner.

Where abouts in the city will you likely be? There is a cab rank right in front of the Hilton by the markets.

Less likely to refuse 2 women in their late 60s i'd say. Worst case catch a tram and get off in front of Casino and do a really slow stroll across the foot bridge.

To be honest, not sure.

We plan to visit the markets in the city, after that we have no idea what we are doing or where we will be.

We'll just try and find a cab for them when we are ready to head to ground.

Thanks for the advice though.

Considering one of them is using a walking cane as well, i'd hope they'd do the decent thing. However if they refuse, i'll let my wife deal with them, she will fair dinkum rip them to shreds, she's not one to be messed with, with stuff like this :D. Plus we will take any drivers name who refuses, and report them to the relative governing body over there.

We will be at the Southern end.

I would just like to thank you all for the help and advice, it is much appreciated.

I'm going with cab option for them, and myself and my wife will walk to the ground, i like taking in the whole atmosphere when going to games, more so Adelaide oval given it's my first visit to that ground
