HELP!!!

My family are terribly difficult to buy presents for, and I am fresh out of ideas.

My Dad is a psychologist, they are difficult enough to live with let alone buy a present for!! We have decided on getting him a DVD player a) it is something he would never think of getting for himself, b) his cd player is on the fritz and he could play his limited music collection thru the dvd player, and c) he wants to buy the GF video - but loves the commentry on the one Mr Ripper sent me (being rex, not ch7, with ch7 footage) and for $5 more than the video you can get the GF dvd with a choice of 3 commentries on it. Sound like a good idea?

ok well that one settled.............what in heavens name do we get my mum???? She is a big hearted lady that is content to enjoy life rather than worry about what she does or doesn't have, and helps an awful lot of ppl thru her community work. Her car was written off earlier this year, and she is now the not-so-proud owner of my old 24yo beat up car, seeing as I got a newer one, but she doesn't complain (that often!!). What on earth should we get her? Some ideas please ppl!!!!

Some pampering might be in order, I think! eg., gift voucher for a massage, facial, etc. (I actually hate all that stuff, but I know most women love it)

I've bought my mum a "diamond" (read: zirconia!!!) tennis bracelet - she has wanted one for years, so I thought I'd finally get her one. Unfortunately, I can't afford to buy the real thing (costs tens of thousands of dollars), but the imitation is just as good and it is something which will make her very happy (which she deserves, cos she has been a great support to me this year during my marriage breakup, and has had to suffer thru the loss of her mother).

Okay, one, don't buy a DVD player if your intention is to play normal CD's on it. DVD players have a life span, and playing CD's on them will rapidly decrease it!

Two.....Mum's are the hardest people in the world to buy for aren't they? Make her something. You can't go wrong, you can be 5 or 50 and if your Mum's still alive then she'll always appreciate something home made! It's a Mum thing! I've got my Mum, a polar bear teddy (she's going to Canada to see them, so I figured she'd like it), some garden tools (she's a garden nut), and then my sister and I are getting a couple of rolls of photos taken of us, getting the best picture, and putting it in a frame. Then of course there's my usual 5 bunches of flowers that I buy her. So it's not a great deal, but I know she'll like it all. Especially the flowers. I've done that for the past 5 years, and she loves them everytime she gets them. Maybe you need to start a tradition like that with your Mum. Like buying a Waterford Crystal glass, and then each year adding one to her collection (and believe me, it will only be 1 a year)!!!!!!

Sorry, didn't really help you much there, but you never know, you might get something out of it! :)

Your Dad's a shrink? Get him an ink blot. Then, he can make out of it anything he wants.

I have common interests with both my folks. What I do is get them something they would like AND I would like.......then I borrow it off of them. :D

Peace, Mooster

I know of a potential life-long patient for him.

I don't see how that works. DVD players aren't a terribly mechanical device, apart from the spinning mechanism. and that's going to be used when it's playing a movie anyway. It's like not driving your car because you're afraid the tyres will wear out ;-)

though do remember that unless you're hooking the whole thing up to a stereo system, home theatre setup etc... you'll have to be content with listening to music through the TV speakers.

oh, as for a mum present, xBinny has got this one right... get something personal.

Heh, that's what I'm getting my mum this year! That and the narnia chronicles. She's a primary school teacher, and loves childrens stories, but especially the narnia ones. And her copy of the Lion the witch and the wardrobe is so well read, that you can't read it anymore without it falling apart.

But xBinny's right, mum's appreciate anything where there's been thought put in. IF you're any good at craft or anything like that, you could make her something, but if not, the best thing, I think, would be to get something that means something.

Danni, spoil her a little. :) Just get her something she would never buy herself.

My Mum's had a hard year, been sick a lot and also hasn't been able to find permanent work, had to sell her car and stuff, and I found this beautiful cabinet, some kinda dark wood but it's truly beautiful, a little out of my budget but yeah I think it'd make her year so yeah. :) It's just something she'd love but won't be able to afford to buy it for herself for a long time..............so us kids will find a way to get it for her. :)
