I am doing up my bedroom, First time since I was three! And Dad has given me a Budget, I have $3,000 to spend on TV, Sound system and stuff, I dont intend on spending it all, But where would I go Specifically to buy these items? Harvey Norman and JB HiFi aren't really doing much for me! Also anything in particular I should get, I was thinking getting a PS3 and using it for its Home Entertainment package? please, I have untill Friday to figure out what I want and I want to do some research before buying!

Try the Good Guys at Pooraka. They will normally do a good deal there. Have large round of tv's and stereo systems plus surround sound systems.

I bought a Panasonic system. DVD, CD and cassette all in one. Has surround sound and believe me, in a bedroom it sounds fantastic. Many of my mates have gone out and bought the same after they sussed out mine. Its not a big system but packs a punch sound wise.

Go see Greg Anderson at ***** (the name of his business escapes me but someone will know)

Does he still sell home entertainment systems? If so go see him and tell him you’re a PAFC member. You might get a good deal.

Jeez. Someone struck gold in the dad stakes.

Your telling me DT

My girls are 14, 15 and would go off with 3 shcmackos. I can guarantee it would be spent on clothes, not bedrooms. :p

Mind you, in electrical terms. 3 grand aint a huge amount. Well done RangaInTeal's Dad for being so generous.

For 3grand, unless you want top notch best money can buy, You could get yourself, I resonable flat screen tv (not necessarily one of the 3inch thick tv's that is flat screen, but a normal tv with a flat screen), A decent stereo that plays cd/vcd/mpeg/divx/dvd for you with surround sound (that you will also play the tv through so u get surround sound with your tv. Can get a digital set top box with a HDD for around 2-300 and the PS3 for blue-ray disks aswell as a sweet ass game station (also played through the stereo with surround sound.

You should beable to get all this for $3000 no problem and with the extra cash get a proper cabinet to hold it all in.

We bought our gear from a store on Prospect Road, whose name escapes me. They came around to our house and set it all up for nothing, showed us how to use it etc etc. Their service was absolutely awesome.

It depends a bit on what your priorities are.

Yeah, My Dad's a good man, One of our Greyhound got a win in and other placed so he was happy, Bought My younger sister an IPod and I had a sook! He gave me the budget and said I can take it when I leave home, His contribution to my first house! I hate it how My parents always, tell me they Buy my sister what ever she wants and me not alot any more because I have had ridiculous amounts of money spent on my Sport! But seriously it all comes around at the end of the day! I probably sound like a spoilt brat, but parents out there, Dont neglect one child because they play soprt and the other sit on a couch and watches tv!

I am very greatful of my parents and what they have done for me over the years, and I can't wait to get in my new room! Just need a lady to help christen it !

being married to an accountant and governement auditor has taught me some lessons about being a tightass. short terms gifts won't give you long term enjoyment. i'm assuming you've survived reasonably well up until now without a snazzy tv and surround system, why not put that 3k in a term deposit for a while and let it make you some money. with interest rates on the rise term deposits are getting better and better. given you're age and situation i would probably blow it as well, but sometimes you need to think do i really need that stuff?

with that being said a PS3 would be sweet and very useful, sounds system wise i would think you could just get an average system, but buy yourself a mediagate and then you can stream all you're music and vids through it. You can also get these wicked wireless sound systems that allow you to take speakers around the house so you can listen to the music anywhere. 3k spread over a PS3, sound system and tv will not get you far or much. harvey norman are good at price matching as , jb hifi just suck, good guys at pooraka do some sweet deals.

i would go PS3, mediagate, maybe a smallish plasma or lcd (like 60cm) and an average sound system. i'm sure if you buy it all from the one place with cash you'll get a good deal

Thankyou! I know what you mean about invest... BUT... I bought the PS3 last night... WOW! All I can say is wow! small LCD tv was exactly what I was thinking! A few people have pumped up the good guys at Porakka witch means one of two things, 1. BigFooty is well supported by there staff, or 2. they are actually quite good! I think I will back in the latter! I only live locally (Salisbury) so it is also conveniant!

I have a lovely woodgrain Rank Arena i'd be willing to part company with if the price was right. If you're lucky i'll throw in a Marantz all-in-one hi-fi.

PM me or details. ;)

that sounds like an antique system, could be worth some $$$$ if in good working order

I would say as a younger person the father should keep the money, come to me and look at investment strategies. Under 30 "generally" one should be growth or high growth investor and therefore should look at investing into the markets and using a margin loan. These margin loans can start from as little as 5,000 doubling the investment portfolio. With regular contributions that a margin loan would match ones investment portfolio will grow in no time.

$150 a week reinvested over 25 years with grow could lead to a savings portfolio of over $500,000 easy.

:)

SAY WHAT???:o

Just stay away from margin loans until you know what you're doing. Greater reward also equals greater risk.

That's why one should always use a qualified financial planner :) Such as me lol
