Gotta love YouTube - how's this for 3 mins of hook-ladden, genius power pop propelled into an unbelieving world. Love the audience shots ..

and then follow up with a bit of the ol' brain jangling guitar noodling

No wonder I lost my mind .. best debut album of ALL TIME

Gee, lucky that the BigFooty music board is here so that we have the opportunity to confirm that Jimi Hendrix was amazing.

Otherwise, if someone came up to me and said "Jimi Hendrix was really amazing, wasn't he?", I wouldn't have known what to see.

Luckily, after seeing those Youtube videos, I'll now know what to say.

PaddleFoot, I'm not about to knock a fellow Hendrix fan. He is my alltime favourite musician. The guitar was simply an extension of his being.

But trust me, there is far better footage of Jimi than that. Keep digging bro.

Clearly there are better clips of Hendrix .. and duh we all are aware in retrospect what an influence he was and still is - but watching these clips and esp. the audience, took me back to when I first heard the album when it came out ( 14 yo ). The vast majority of attendees look .. stunned, bored even .. it's hard to say .. but I recall those looks - that's how completely different he was for WASP society ( yes, there was a profound generation gap which is now just a vague memory ) .. but for those who were instantly entranced / compelled / embraced by those 3 mins, it was the sweetest most liberating sound - transforming -( and built on a tradition of R&B, pop and jazz ) .. and this was at a time when the Beatles were at their eclectic best.

Not better debut .. end of rave.

Piper At The Gates Of Dawn was a fair debut. Especially as it gets comparisons to Sgt Pepper by some.

Never really been into Hendrix which is odd considering I love 60's psychedelic music.

Yep, spot on PaddleFoot. Good rave.

The word genius gets thrown around too easily these days. But Hendrix was a genius.

It's one of those things that bothers me, that he died so young. What would he have done if he had lived? We'll never know and we'll never hear it and that bothers me alot.
