Look at THE WHOLE SQUAD and make a comparison. Essendon have a much more rounded group of kids. Our future spine looks in much better shape.

You would think the one club Essendon supporters wouldn't have a go at is Richmond, given that they couldn't even beat the club in Sheedy's and Hird's Melbourne fairwell.

25 years worth thanks very much!! We did dominate the 82 season, only to be distracted by the GF streaker while the Blueballers kicked the 3 goals they beat us by.

How does a game that featured only 4 of the last 16 players we drafted going to be an indicator of our future? I'm sure the fact you beat a team with Hird, Camporeale, Johnson, Lloyd, Lucas and Michael is A CERTAIN indicator that you'll be a better team in 5 years.

You won 1 game by 4 goals when we had 3 players off the ground with injury in the last quarter. But that IS UNDENIABLE PROOF that Richmond will without doubt be better than Essendon in the future, can't even argue with that can I?

I know other sides don't think much of young players bar west coast supporters for some reason seem to think we will be alright when the rest of the comp think we are going to have a terrible season.

My opinion is almost every side in the comp could finish anywhere it's that even at the moment.

Iam happy with our young guys i seriously am. Whether others agree I don't really care because only time will tell.

Our ruck stocks are fine for the next 5 years Laycock will seriously be a star of the compition next year.

Our midfield in the next 2 years will be this, Monfries, Winderlich, Nash, lovett, Stanton, Watson and Mcvaigh. I can deal with that it won't be the best in the comp but it will be above most.

Then throw in the a few like alwyn daveys, dempsy, jetta, hislop, ryder with our guys that are apparently old farts, Lloyd will play full forward this year and kick 3-4 most games, Lucas is still playing at his peak somehow he is a star. Fletcher i would have above any full back in the league still regardless of what others say.

A bit of luck with injuries and finals is not beyond us, and contesting for a flag in the next 5 years isn't an unrealistic goal.

I'd say your best players are hird(gone) lloyd(veteran)fletcher(nearly gone)lucas(see lloyd) and mcphee. Your best players are all old and even though you have a couple of promising kids)ryder,gumbleton,stanton, you fall away badly after that. Your midfield is painfully slow and you have a fair bit of rebuilding to do. It makes me laugh when you guys have pot shots at us, I'm telling you the only way is down for you blokes... enjoy the ride.

See that's better now, instead of trying to claim that the result of one game is FACT that Richmond is better than Essendon, you look at some of our players and give your OPINION on our future.

actually i know a little about your list as my cuz and old man are both dons supporters and i usually go to a few games with them... and trust me i don't mind essendon, don't hate them like carlton or the pies however i seriously think your list needs a major overhaul. You finally got rid of johnson and bradley which were good moves however i would have put jjohnson and peverill out to pasture as well. Anyway i wish knighta all the best with you blokes but i just feel he is on a hiding to nothing as essendon supporters seem to have unrealistic expections of where they sit.

We got rid of 7 players, you can't just get rid of 9 or 10 in a season, especially with a weak draft. Jason Johnson is contracted for 2008 and he'll retire after that. Peverill had his best season of his career and genuinely deserved to be re-signed. If he keeps his form up he might deserve another year, but then again he's every chance to get delisted as well just due to the fact that he will be in his late 20s.

Our list has been majorly overhauled already, compare it to the 2005 list. Everyone says our best players are all old, but if you put Hird, Lloyd, Lucas and Fletcher in any team, they easily would be amongst the best. We've got 4 quality KP players in their twilight years (Lloyd, Lucas, Fletcher, Michael), but the rest of our squad all have many years ahead of them. The fact that we still have those 4 for 2008, and the fact that the other 30 or so players are only getting better (enough to cover the loss of Hird) means we can be competitive in the next couple years, and if the youngsters come on as we hope, we can be genuine contenders in 2010 and beyond.

You can ahve as many young Midfielders as you want. Its only when you have a good young KPP will you be back in the 8 for a long time, ie Hawthorn and Buddy/Roughhead

sorry i don't rate essendon's midfield at all. could u pls name two midfields that are worse than essendon's.

also i think that the flag part is a bit optimistic. maybe 5-10 yrs would be a more accurate estimate
