Hi everybody,
I have been a long time viewer of bigfooty and have thought about joining up a few times, but Im not the most knowledgeable footy fan so up until now I have contented myself with just viewing!
However I figured what better way to get to know this beautiful game better than getting amongst the posting, so time to give it a try.
A little about me; my name is Chris & Im a 23yo recent law grad. Grew up in Ballarat and as a kid would go to plenty of roosters games with my dad, that's when I first fell in love with the game.
My dad is a die in the wall geelong member, goes to all the kardinia games. he claims that we had a few relatives play down at kardinia a couple of generations ago but I dunno how true that is as I am rubbish at footy and so is he. He grew up in the western district down near Colac on a dairy farm.
Mum is from Adelaide and we used to go up there as a family for the September school holidays so I would watch most finals at a pub in crows district. She was a port supporter (SANFL) until the crows were brought into the afl but when that happened she went full crow and hasnt gone back. I suspect a few port supporters around these parts would crucify her for that!
I dont really have an allegiance to any one team, I have always found the contest of a decent game to be far and away the most entertaining thing in my life and I dont think I could bring myself to only barrack for only one club!
That being said I was brought up on a diet of the Catters and the Crows, (Peter Riccardi and Nigel Smart 2 of my favs) so they are the 2 teams I adore. I have a big soft spot for the tigers, port and brisbane.
Outside that the clubs I admire are Sydney (love their game style, and hannebery is probably my favorite player currently running around), Freo (Mundy is a superfreak), and the bulldogs (odd one i know but I have so many memories of Chris Grant kicking bags at kardinia and I always loved that. also a big fan of bob murphy).
I dont really have any clubs I dislike, although for some weird reason (despite loving Mitchell and Hodge) I take great pleasure watching the Hawks fail. It might be related to the fact that I live in Kew (just up the road from Hawthorn) and my local after a hawks win is filled to capacity with insufferable clowns with no clue crapping on about how bloody brilliant the hawks are. To give you some idea of the stupidity on display, after the easter monday game I got into an argument with some pompous tosspot claiming that puopolo should have got bog. No Joke. But im sure every club has their share of idiot one eyed supporters who make the rest look bad.
