Hi all!

I'm a Hawks fan currently living in Moscow. Found the forum via a Google search where I was trying to work out why none of the Bigpond videos or javascript links work on the AFL website...

A bit about me - I've started an Aussie Rules competition here in Moscow (going on a month now), so far so good. Trying to send a team of Russians to the Euro Cup in October. Love being able to play the game.

Cheers!

Is it a winter sport in Russia too?
I wouldn't mind a game when I'm over in Moscow.

I'll be in town on
Dec 21-22 (In on Trans Mongolian around midday - Out to St petersburg on night train)
Dec 29-Jan 1 (In a tour, I think Dec 30 is the free day - Out about 4pm on Jan 1)

Unlikely we'd be able to play in winter here with temps around minus 15 to minus 30... Suppose we could give it a try! Though the field we use is an ice-skating rink during winter...

Drop me line if you're in town anyway, always good to catch up with Aussies here.. There's not too many of us!

Prevyet tovarish!!

I lived in Moscow for four years teaching English. I am going back in September for two weeks with two friends. We are going to Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kazan. Can't wait. I miss Moscow so much it hurts.:(

Incidentally, we will be there for the Grand Final. Do you know if the Sports Bar will be showing it, or anywhere else we may be able to watch it?

Forgot about that factor :p
Though, surely It'd be warmer in Moscow than in other parts of the country that I shall be visiting, like say Irkutsk?

Might do, won't know about availability in too much detail untill closer to the date.

Well, I do come in on the Trans-Siberian on Wednesday the 21st of December, and I will have that afternoon free, but I don't know what time we should be in, also am in for the majority of the 22nd before I head up to St Petersburg for part 2 of my holiday via a sleeper train. Don't get back to Moscow till the 29th.

29th - Dont know what I'm doing - This I think might be the plan day for the Kremlin and Lenin's Mausoleum etc.
30th - Was planned as a free date, but I have through the tour company plans to go into an old Soviet nucleur bunker, but that'll only kill a few hours, most of the day is free.
31st - I beleive it too is a free day, but it's ending with Red Square New Years infront of St Peters Basillica for New Years Celebrations :p
1st - Hangover before a 4-5pm flight out of Moscow (Domedevo) headed to Dubai

Ha ha! Moscow's like heroin - you can never kick the habit.

I definitely do know where to watch the GF. Drop me a line before you get here, and we'll meet up so I can direct you to the right bar.

In Moscow it'll be about minus 15. In Irkutsk... I'm afraid to even think about the temperature there... minus 30? Less? Brrr. Make sure you bring extremely warm clothes. Ski jackets, long johns etc. It's not the best time to be here.

I have 3 sets of long sleeve long johns, 3 sets of pant long johns, thin gloves and thick fleece gloves, 2 or 3 pairs of thick socks, water proof shoes, 2 balacklavas, 1 of them fleece and a thick jacket designed for freezing conditions.

Plus, I'm trying to get used to cold conditions in Adelaide, go around in shorts shirt and thongs in 7-8 degree nights. I'm used to it when moving now. Stop, and wow, you just get pretty damn cold pretty quickly

Ha great stuff! Should fit in perfectly here in the balaclava. ;)

7-8 degrees eh? Sweltering :D

Raskolnikov - If it was you who stole my camera
MoscowHawk - Loved Moscow, heck, loved most of Russia, want to go back, but lack of photos taken at the end after some St Petersburgian stole my camera
