Hickey's form against Gawn in both games last season gets him the nod.

The idea that he smashed Gawn is a bit overstated - the stats were pretty even in both games we played, but compared to what Gawn was doing to some of the other ruckmen in the comp, Hickey probably won the position in both games.

Also, I haven't been that impressed with Longer in the 2 games this year. He looks super fit, but Ryder punished him when he was on the ground in JLT1, and Carlton's No.1 ruckman in JLT2 was an American from the rookie list and Longer wasn't really dominant like he should have been (5 disposals, 1 mark)

Regardless of anyone's opinion about which is the best option I am sure Hickey will play round 1.

You don't have his trademark being 'beat Gawn twice' plastered over the wall and then not play him against Gawn in week 1 - kills belief in your strategy away day claptrap

You don't only give one of your 2 frontline rucks half a pre-season game - he will play dress rehearsal JLT3 and therefore round 1 unless he has an absolute stinker.

I think Longer will get plenty of games though - short leash to keep them both gunning for it

You only need to listen to the talk from the club to know Longer will be there round 1.
Hickey for mine.

Am I the only one who genuinely doesn't care?

If Hickey plays, that's great. There were periods last year when he was in the top handful of rucks in the league. He's seemingly had an uninterrupted pre-season so you'd expect him to build on that.

If Longer plays, that's great. That means he's performing better than a ruckman who was in the top handful of rucks in the league.

Hickey by a fair margin but Longer if the other option is both but that will not happen. Baring injuries to about 3 talls we will never see both in the same side in a real game. Still cant believe Longer has somehow gone past Hickey. Maybe I dreamt Hickeys form last year.
