Geelong
Hird played 253 games & booted 343 goals
Jesaulenko played 279 games & booted 444 goals

Both were exceptionally versatile and breath taking players in their prime.
Both were state champions, premiership winning captains, All-Australians, Hall of Famers.

Who would you pick?

Don't really know much about Jesaulenko as I never saw him play. I watched Hird play as a kid growing up. He was sublime in every aspect of his game. A great Captain and a great footballer who was always dominating games for Essendon, especially during the late 90's and early 2000's he was really stamping his authority on games. He dominated from start to finish.

Jezza by a mile. Carlton's best ever player and worthy flanker in TOC. Hirds a gun, but 1-2 rungs below best team of all time player.

I seen Jezza's highlights reel and heard others speak of him and he must have been like a Koutafides in his day.
Majority of those marks in the 70's are phenomenal, his hang time and natural spring was beyond the norm.
Someone who could dominate in the air but were also sublimely skilled once the ball hit the ground.
Both players were aided by playing in top teams with champions around them but Jezza in today's game would have been unreal.
Was tough too, would have had the opposition try and take him out when all that shit was fair game back then.

I saw both their careers. Good comparison as they both could play a key position but were more natural ball winners and creative wizards. Jezza wasn't the same midfield dominator that Hird was but more spectacular. I wax and wane it is a hard choice. Probably go Jezza.

Picked Jezza as his reputation precedes him and he was simply spectacular in his era.
And great photos btw!
