If the events of the week hadn't happened, you could almost claim that Hirdy was playing badly because he was match-fixing.
It seemed to me that he ran to the wrong spots where the ball was going, he looked disinterested and in parts lazy, and in no universe would Trent Sporn towel up James Hird one on one.
If you've seen the movie "Mean Machine", you could see that Hirdy was almost doing a Danny Meehan.
Either he was really affected by having to be the umpires puppet on the Footy Show (and really that's all he was, Vladimir had his hand right up Jim's rear end on Thursday), or he was told to play badly rather than cop a suspension which I would think they were pushing for.
That's the only reasoning I can find. James Hird just doesn't have a bad night.
