Thompson I thought was a fair pick up and should play this week bit I don't agree that we necessarily needed more 'inside/grunt' types.
The more the merrier perhaps but we have been good at clearances and stoppages for a while now... it's what we do with it when we have it that is crap.

Having picked up Thompson I have no idea why then Hislop was prefered over a youngster.

I do not subscribe to the theory that we needed a 'hard nut' who tackles well as IMO ALL PLAYERS SHOULD DO THIS and tackling is one of the 'easier' footy skills that you can coach into a team... just tell em to ****ing do it!!!!!!

Expect Hislop to be de-listed in Septemeber...

bang on!

i have been saying it for ages, i never ever subscribed to the theory we need more tacklers or more players hard at the ball, what a load of rubbish, every single player needs to do the basics of footy ie tackle, chase, gut run in support, shephard. All the top teams have sticks that do it, why do we need "special hardbuts" to balance the ledger, FFS every single person go hard or **** off home

Hislop - looking like a worse recruit than kingsley and billy nicholls combined. seriously, were there no 17-18 year olds anywhere in Australia that could play better than him. seriously.

Thomson - Havent seen him much. Just what i've seen on you tube, but thought he would add to the toughness inside kind of players we need. but if doesnt play at least 85% of the rest of the year then will be looked upon like i;m looking at hislop.

this has been the tigers problem over wallaces reign; recycled players that werent guns at their old club. just list cloggers. had he recruited more players like brown was at his peak, than ok, but guys like these are no better than untried 18yos at the moment.

in fact i wrote about terrible drafting of recycled players in a past post, so i wont repeat myself.

Any time you give up a pick for a ready made player...they need to be a walk up start on almost all occasions.

For a second rounder, they ought to be in your top 10 players week in week out.

A third rounder would want to be either older and a star or younger be playing every week.

A fourth rounder is a bit of a punt. But should have good upside.

And above all - don't give up two choices in one year. That hurts the future to much.

Polak + Reiwold for the first round pick was decent.
2006 ok, in fact pretty good. That said, Riewoldt is yet a top player.

McMahon - I know why they took him, they wanted better run and delivery off the half back line. But it has turned out to be a poor selection as he is struggling to make the side in a 1/6 team. Fail.
Morton - very very good pickup. Good recruiting.
2007 fail - we gave up two picks. One worked well. We should have gone with just morton. But I ackowledge I am being a bit harsh here.

Thomson - we gave up a 3rd rounder. Should be playing walk up start even if not a star. Fail.
Hislop - doesn't look like he is capable at all at this level. What were they thinking? Fail.
2008 - BIG BIG FAIL. What on earth were they thinking. Arrgh.

Thomilf's apparently injured, there's an article on our board about it, dunno how it didn't end up on yours. Just give him a chance and he'll perform, his kicking isn't that bad, his clearance work is excellent and he kicks plenty of goals for a midfielder. Always made the most of his limited game time at Port, but Choco seemed to be the only guy in SA who didn't rate him. We even had a campaign in the Advertiser to bring him in mid-year.
could you post the link in here.

and he should get his chance sometime this year.

yes true but then why do we recruit them?
i just want to see our potentially best team on the park and let them gel together... melbourne has done it... and you can see now they are starting to gel...

i think we drafted them was they were 2 hard bodies, have played AFL level before. a late draft pick would be hit or miss, with these 2 they have already. well it's beter to have a couple of guys forcing there way into the team and hopefully making a statement than 2 duds.
