Were primed to be two of the most popular selections in '09. Anyone still banking on them to be fit and firing from the get go? It's a tough choice... I had them both pencilled in, but am now confused on what to do...

i don't really rate hodge for DT 09 because of the role he plays and the attention he'll receive from opposition clubs although his GF performance was almost unstoppable, he also is prone to injury and suspension. Not good for a "premium" liek this year, he won't be a top 10 backman (overall score). As for lewis, there is definetly potential there to improve with hodge most likely permenantly becoming a backman, so lewis will get more of the ball however you could save money by buying ellis instead, who i think will have the same score as lewis if not higher come seasons end.

Yes that is true but I believe about 70% will be played down back with another 30% to be a momentum shifter in the midfield

Hodge - will upgrade to during season if he looks to be the goods, although only if he is a back

Lewis - doesnt bother me, i see heaps of value round that mark and thus having to disregard one player doesnt really affect me at this stage of the year.

The severity of the tear to the labrum (A ring or cup like of cartilage that the head of the humerus fits into) designates if it open surgery or keyhole. Recovery should be quick for these boys as they said they would leave it if it happened during the season. Will be able to train and keep their fitness levels up with no contract drills, I assume this is to prevent the labrum from tearing again.

For me I was never going to start Hodge, looking to upgrade later as back. Lewis I still will look at but as Lakey pointed out there's alot of value around the same price.

Edit just read that Hodge was in a sling @ training, 22/12/08 Lewis was not spotted.

Hodge is gonna come under as much fire from the opposition as Buddy does next season.
He isn't gonna be playing on the fourth best forward with a bad injury every week now- like he did in the grand final.
I expect his average to drop a fair bit next year in DT.

If Hodge isnt havnt an early impact in the year down back and is finding/getting the tags and thier tough to break, than i think the hawks will move him midfield and even forward. I certainly dont think he set as a HBF or spare man in defence. Although i noticed last year that he would play on a player such as C.Cloke and than just run off him all day long. Sides may struggle to tag him as he may already have an opposition forward. It will be extremely interesting to watch him next year, thus i am not taking him from the start because their are plenty of unknowns and uncertainties and at that high order price isnt worth risking, especially when their is plenty of other choice.

I think he could easily finish top 10 backs overall and would expect him to, even if he misses 1 or 2 games.

What are you talking about, his surgery was preventative and was definitely not a necessity. If you think Hodge is going to play the whole year with an injury then you are obviously wrong.

Same line of thinking as me Lakey, plenty of value around 400k in the mids, of the top of my head i think there is Boak,VanBerlo,Knights then a bit cheaper there is Goodes & Lockyer and i think a bit more expensive there are Montagna, Gibbs and lots of other value players.

In the backs you can save 40-60k from not getting Hodge and get a chad or goddard or Fish.

There's plenty of options available:thumbsu:

I think J.Bowden may even be worth buying from the start purely as a captain choice, but then again I guess he'll probably lose a lot of value but he could also go berserk as well, hmmmm.

Big Nasty meant the guy who was playing on Hodge (Matthew Stokes) was Geelong's "fourth best forward with a bad injury", hence Hodgey had a relatively easy game pressure wise.

Haha Big Nasty, still sour are you? Serious injury? He wouldn't have played you muppet. Stop making excuses.

Hodge's role is unpredictable. I'd expect him to play down back whilst Croad is out, but he'll probably be more accountable.
