fulltas mum has just been served to this sire.

he is a european champion 2 yr old colt by storm cat, and is a three qaurter brother in blood to hennessy, and hold that tiger is also a group 1 winner over 1400m at longchamp. his race record included 3 wins, from 10 starts.he came 3rd in the breeders cup which is one of the best 2yr old races in the world.

his dam, beware of the cat, was a black type winner, and has had 7 horses to race with all of them being winners.

what do u lads think of this stallion??

Big gamble - won a Euro 2YO race which aren't that strong, but is nicely bred. Best form over short ground though bred to get longer. Storm Cat's sons have had mixed success here. I'd have gone back to Mookta myself.

I'm no expert but I thought Blevic might have been a nice match, with Biscay close up in his pedigree, as it is in the mare's (in fairness I didn't recognise many of the names in her pedigree, and he was the only value stallion I could think of), as well as his being a proven bread and butter sire (13 stakes winners, more than 60% winners to runners) for less than half ($5500) the price.

Good luck.

thanks for your opinion tim.

big gamble- thats the breeding game for you tim,we had the choice a few years ago between umatilla and encosta de lago, both at the same price and we went to umatilla, still in my mind everyday!!

blevic "bread and butter", we want a high class horse, not a bread and butter horse. haha. thanks again for you input though, greatly appreciated, it would be great if others told me there thoughts!!

I wouldn't blame you for going to Umatilla, he is a good proven sire - you can only make decisions based on what you know at the time.

I'd back Blevic. Odds are you'll get a very reliable horse out of it that will give you years of fun.

sorry seth, but we are talking about hold that tiger who is a thoroughbred stallion. keep the standardbred talk in another thread sunshine!!!

I'm a big fan of sons of Storm Cat, particularly Giant's Causeway. From all reports, Hold That Tiger has some pretty impressive young horses on the ground from his first two crops.
Half the battle is getting a good, sound foal and its always a bit of a raffle.
Hold That Tiger's first yearlings go through the sales next year, so it will be interesting to see how they are received.
I tend to think our sprinters are superior to Europe's but Stravinsky is one horst that has proven Europe's best sprinters can have a big impact at stud here in Australia.
Hold That Tiger comes from a strong family and was obviously a serious racehorse, so he gets a few ticks.
I hope it all works out well for ya.

Interestingly enough Stravinsky has done reasonably well down here but has generally been disappointing in Europe. It has to be remembered that he has been serving top class books due to standing at Cambridge. Giant's Causeway hasn't really done much here.

That is a weird one with Stravinsky being so much more successful down here than in Europe. In stark contrast is Fasliyev, who stood his first season at Coolmore with Stravinsky. He set a new record for first crop winners in Europe but struggled to get a winner at all here. And interestingly, both are sons of Nureyev.
Stravinsky has one of the better winners/runners ratios here in Oz, There aren't a heap of them about. His fillys/mares definitely fly the flag for him. Hogan certainly got him to Cambridge at the right time and the only reason he is now getting the top quality mares is because he has been able to produce top results from the get go. He certainly didn't serve top class books to start with. I would say he served handy books for his first few seasons.
I know Giant's Causeway hasn't thrown much yet but he really only has one crop on the track because he is never going to have early two-year-old runners. I think in time he will prove himself. Mind you, at his service fee he would want to produce some handy ones.

i noticed that johannesburg produced a couple of winners over the weekend in victoria, one at monee valley on friday night. johannesburg is a son of hennessy, which in turn is also a son a storm cat.this is his 1st crop of 2yr olds. hennessy is the 3-4 brother in blood to hennessy.
