I'm trying to organise a home game with some of my mates and was hoping I could get some advice on the following:
- What game(s) to play? HE is the definitely on the list as its the one everyone knows how to play. Omaha will be played as well as I think it will be easiest to explain for those who know HE. Anyone other games to consider?
- There's 8 of us, and I think a tournament is better option as there as those who like to go 'all in' many times and probably wouldn't last too long. Perhaps $10 buy-in and a prize structure of $50 $20 $10?
- One of us has a poker set with chips (not sure how many). What's a good ratio of big blind to total chips to start with? How often should the blinds increase?

Keep in mind that although there is real cash involved, the main purpose is to have fun. Thanks in advance.

Me and my mates play often. Theres usually bout 8 of us and we all pay 5 bucks. We play texas no limit as this is the easiest. One of us has a really good set of chips we use and we generally start with 50 each and have blinds set at 1 and 2 to start off with. Games usually go for 3 hours-ish and at the end winner takes all. As for when to put the blinds up, there are a few things to consider. How slow the game is going or how many people are left. By the time there are 3 people left blinds for us are usually up to bout 6/12.

I have a weekly home game with between 8 and 20 players
Always $10 buyin no rebuys
Usually try to give 100 Big Blinds for starting chips
Ie: $25-$25 Starting blinds we start with $2500 in chips
It will take you a while to work out how long to have your blind levels for
We have finally settled on 15 minutes
Pineapple and crazy pineapple are other good games to play as after the flop they are basically NLHE
If you play Omaha in a home game don't play HI-Lo as the splitting of pots will drive you mad after a while
Our prize pool works exactly the same as yours for 8 and changes depending on numbers

Good luck if you need any of this explained to you just sing out

Sorry just thought i'd add our games go for roughly 2.5 to 4.5 hoours depending on players

I used to play two table NL Hold'em tournaments with a $20 buy in, winner take all. Just make sure you know the rules so if anyone has any questions you can answer them.

I play a mixed home game every once and a while at my house, usually $5 a head. We get 6 to 8 players. We have some experienced players, but some novices, but they don't care about playing games like Stud or Triple Draw, cause they can always get lucky. And I think they enjoy learning the other games.

So if you want to incorporate Omaha or Omaha Hi/Lo into your mixed game, my advice would be to explain the game thoroughly to people, and perhaps not play it for money first off. Remember, people are always afraid of change, but they should come around. Just say, "hey, you get FOUR CARDS THIS TIME!!!!"
