Hi Folks. Sometime last year i brought http://dicksmith.com.au/product/AE3646/philips-5-1-channel-dvd-home-theatre-hts3531-79 (it was on sale for 100 at the time i brought it) ive been using it to have movies from my media player player through the speakers. (as my tv didnt have a optical port in it).

well today i purchased http://www.samsung.com/au/support/model/UA50ES6200MXXY (beautiful tv btw if anyones looking for one) i set it up connect everything correctly and but when i plug the optical cable from the home Theatre to the tv i cant get any sound through the speakers just the tv ones.

anyone know what could be the issue?

ok why are you using optical when you have HDMI? buy a HDMI cable (don't pay more than $20 and less if you can) plug it in. remember if its hdmi 1, 2, 3, or 4

and is there a menu item to tell the player where to send the sound output when it's on. usually you can set, TV, device and sometimes both.

but why are you using optical?

the optical cable goes from the ht to the optical port in the tv so i can listen to everything through the surround sound speakers (what im doing now is having one end of the cable to the sound system and having the other end connected to either my ps3 or media player depending on which one im using) but by connecting the optical cable from the sound system directly to the tvs optical port i can listen to the tv/media player and ps3 through the speakers without having to connect 1 device at a time to the system. does that make sense?
