BTWN can any of our US posters Moose or You idiot tell me where route 66 is and where it runs from and to please?

Route 66 runs from Chicago to LA. I've been here in the US 6+ years and I've been nowhere near in that time ;) unless one counts a stopover at LAX.

Some maps of it available at:

No, it sounds like Mcchawk's got a nice catch there, you don't see too many shabby looking Portuguese women!

I'd suggest you go over to Portugal, never been there but heard it's a beautiful place with good food and climate as well as beautiful women, but I guess you won't be looking! ;)

Already been. Porto and Lisbon are two of my favourite places in Europe.

If it was a choice out of C.A and Portugal I would choose Portugal. C.A is only good for the Big Sir and San Fransisco and places like LA are pretty grotty.

Self-sail a yacht or 40ft power cruiser around the Whitsundays.

US....OK, not great. Route 66 should just thrill your new wife. Especially filling up at some servo with a butt crack exposed whale taking care of the bowser. Take her to a monster truck rally as well! Fordzilla!

Southern Europe is good.

Get done over in exchange rate / purchasing power parity in the UK and US / Bahamas.

I meant to address that second paragraph to Mcchawk. In California, San Francisco's good, LA's good if you like spending half your day on the freeway to get from one attraction to the other.

Beat me to it, Lionel! :)

I've never been along Route 66, FWIW, MccHawk-- but from what I've heard, it's a piece of Americana that cannot ever be passed up if you should have the chance to take it.

Another one would be Interstate 5, which goes from Canada to Mexico (Tijuana/Baja California) by way of Seattle, Portland, the Californian central valley, and the Pacific Coast Highway near Los Angeles. That part alone would be worth the trip... simply gorgeous.

Good luck to ya...

Cheers,
William

Congratulations Mcchawk! I'll be going to New Zealand for my honeymoon in a couple of weeks. Really looking forward to it. Doing a coach tour of both islands. Should be great! :)

She comes from Maderia (island off Portugal) where her uncles owns a bar ;) Guess what portugese I know (enter Grendel!!) Can I please have a beer!! The Portugal option is going to win I think, as I've never met her family outside her parents.

Thanks to everyone supplying info, even you Old Ro Boy (mail order? what drugs are you on?)

Cheers

Go to Sicily, or one of those traditional mediterreanean places in Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal, or soemthing like that. Or anytraditional European place is nice, although Sicily is my personal favourite. Of course, cost is a factor.
