If he chooses to go in the PSD, there is no guarantee he will get to St Kilda which is where he wants to go. My feeling is that he will sign but I am a little miffed if he is holding out for big money on the back of one half decent season after a few years of 'blousing.'

Pagan has turned him around, he has admitted that much and he should show some loyalty.

If the little creep is holding the club to ransom then **** him off.
At the end of the day he has never put his head over the football and that is a trait that will never change. I have always thought that he has the heart the size the size of a split pea.

Re: Melbourne offers houla 3 year deal
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two factors spring to mind here :

(A) If the little @#%$ wants to leave, then let him. Him & his family have a habit of leaving things till very late and trying to up the ante. Well it won't work with me, don't let the door slap you in the butt on the way out sonny !!

(B) The committee need to be given a right royal bollocking if this situation becomes a reality. Surely they knew that his contract was up for renewal and could have worked a bit more diligently to get it squared away before now. Also, if they couldn't come to terms with him earlier, then why didn't they just find a suitable trade deal during trade week when they could have got something decent in exchange for him ???

Yes Sheik, the club are deserving of some criticism if this happens. At least Port can say they negotiated for a suitable trade for Stevens where as I am pretty sure the Blues thought they could talk Houla around. I think we were preoccupied with Kouta's re-negotiations and rubbing our hands together at the prospect of snaring Stevens in the preseason draft and Houla hasn't got the attention he wanted.

Good point ODN, could it be that young Ryan felt a little 'left out' and was miffed ??

If this episode does become a reality, I will be extremely disappointed as this is what I would have expected from the old regime, not the new guys. Even though I am not a fan of Ryan Houlihan and would be happy to see him leave the club, it is not under these circumstances that I want it to happen. It's the principle that is of paramount importance here.

We have to do things differently from the past and I hope this turns out to be just an isolated incident, a very poor one at that.

Yes, he only survived last year because there was no talent coming into the club, he should have taken the next step, didnt, now we have some talent coming through the doors. Should have taken his opportunity when it presented itself. Fully back the club on this issue

This happens with every contract, I'm sure his only trying to get a few more bucks out of the Blues. He'll stay his guaranteed a game at Carlton in 2004.

Houla can play and has plenty of skills, he was much more consistent in 2003, and we can’t afford to lose a player with his skills/disposal, albeit he might not be the most physical player in our squad, he was harder than previous years.

Substitue Houlihan for Matty Allan and you'd have the same headline from the past 5 years about this time of year.

If Port aer dirty on Stevens we will be FILTHY on Houlihan for stitching us up when we need it least.

Keep him for another year than trade him off to Freo!

VERY dissapointed!

and we can’t afford to lose a player with his skills/disposal

Of course we can. Though we want him, he is NOT the Carlton Football Club. We are so much bigger than that. Make him an offer, if he refueses, let him go, simple really. Not the preferred option, but exactfly how strong management should handle it

westbrom I understand the point you’re trying to make, that no individual is greater then the club. I agree with that principle, but just sitting back and losing a player which the club has groomed for several seasons is difficult to swallow. Houla is not a critical cog to the current Carlton squad and can’t demand a huge package, but then we don't know what he has been offered.

I would hate to see him depart, but for the first time in a number of years I have confidence that management will pull the right strings and do what’s best for Carlton.

i dont think carlton need to panic much on this topic. he is just trying to scoop up a better deal. for one, why would he want to go to st kilda to play with his bro if his bro hasnt played yet, therefore is no certainty to remain on the saints list in the upcoming years.
the whole deal with melbourne too... yeah right, whos melbourne?

The same Mike Sheehan that basks in pessimism about carlton? the same mike sheehan that looks for every bad thing about carlton and makes it sound incredibly worse? the same mike sheehan that did not give ne hope but lots of criticism to koutofides at the start of this year?

Is there out there in Blueland that has any "inside"
information or gut feelings from the CFC administration as to whether Houla is going to jump ship of not as I see where he in now talking to Pies?? Surely they couldn't accommodate his salary demands and still be under the cap.

The most galling thing if he does nominate for the pre season draft is that we won't get any player or draft compensation for him.

This anomaly seems to be a weakness in the AFL's proceedure for the lodging of each club's playing list.

What about him saying that McKay was washed up before season 2003. 22 rounds later he wins a B2F.
