Yeah a clean out is needed. Kubiak will be gone and most of the coaching staff. Even Phillips, he's D is looking predictable, tired and doesn't seem to be able to turn it around when things are going bad.
Then again he hasn't got the cattle. Need improvement at LB and secondary. On Offence the OL needs a big overhaul. No depth right across the board.

Yep, Bill Cowher has in the past expressed an interest in coaching us so you'd assume he'd be first priority. On the OL apart from Duane Brown there is no one that shouldn't be replaced. The disparity in quality from Cushing to the next capable LB is huge!

On Keenum, not sure if he's the answer but if we do get a top 5 pick in this year draft which may be the case do you go for Bridgewater or Mariotta? Or give Keenum a whole season?

Myers has been good again at C.

I'd definitely take a QB next year to fight it out with Keenum but not sure if i'd use a 1st round pick. Prefer to use that on OL. Won't complain though if we get Bridgewater (haven't seen as much of Mariotta.

Yep, Mariotta is more of a duel threat with his feet whereas Bridgewater is a much more accomplished passer. Clowney wouldn't look to bad either opposite JJ Watt, ecspecially as a decision needs to be made on whether Smith is resigned.

Case Keenum hasn't thrown an interception in 102 pass attempts this season.

The franchise record is 110 consecutive attempts without an interception, set ironically by this year's pick-six king Matt Schaub. The stat proves that Keenum is capable of playing an aggressive, schoolyard kind of style while still protecting the football. He has seven touchdowns, zero picks and a 105.1 passer rating through games this season and will be a solid QB2 against the Raiders Sunday.

The Texans will not hire an offensive coordinator.

In his first year as an NFL head coach, Bill O'Brien will be pulling double duty. We don't think the results will suffer. O'Brien did not employ an offensive coordinator while at Penn State for the past two seasons and dealt with heavy scholarship sanctions, yet still had the Big 10's No. 4 offense in 2013. He'll work on an offense that is just one season removed from a top-seven ranking and let Romeo Crennel handle the defense.

I think we missed the steal of the draft (Bridgewater) by the slightest margin. If we don't take Carr with our first pick tomorrow i think we can wait until the third round before taking a QB, that or trade for Mallett. Can't wait to find out.

Already received an email from the nfl about being one of the first people to get a clowney jersey, either he is going to wear number 90 or it is a random number lol

Looks like we will be starting Fitzpatrick this year, not a bad option considering how strong our defence is going to be for years to come. Pity all the top RB's went in that 3rd round, it would have been good to pick up one after Tate left but couldn't not trade up and grab Nix when he fell so far.

Very pleased with our draft so far, lets hope we can pick up a few more sliders in the coming rounds.

Be interested in your thoughts TheGreatBarryB will Fitzpatrick be an adequate stop gap until we find our next franchise QB ?

Posted on the other thread bgt that Fitzpatrick is a better option than QBS in this draft, certainly better than remaining picks. Maybe we'll trade for Mallett as well. Like you say wait until next year's draft for franchise QB.

Good picks so far, some badly needed big bodies

According to Michael Schotty from the Bleacher Report his analysis of day 2 for the Texans are :

Xavier Suá-Filo

Grade: B+

Why This Pick Makes Sense:

Building through the trenches makes a ton of sense.

Xavier Su'a-Filo was the top interior lineman in the draft and is a good, balanced athlete who will step in right away and not be a deficiency in either run or pass-blocking.

C J Fiedorowicz

Grade: A-

Why This Pick Makes Sense:

Fiedorowicz has a chance to be a poor-man's Rob Gronkowski at the next level.

He's tall, great wingspan and is willing and capable as both a receiver and as a blocker. As a No. 2 tight end in the third round, it's hard to get more upside.

Lois Nix

Grade: A+

Why This Pick Makes Sense:

The best nose tackle in the draft goes to a team that desperately needed one.

Nix can hold up at the point of attack and he's a better pass-rusher than he's given credit for. This was a perfect landing spot for him, as I thought he was one of their targets at No. 33.

Should Texans have known about Clowney hernia?

The reported disclosure from Texans defensive end Jadeveon Clowney that he played through a sports hernia in 2013 raises a potential treasure trove for the dead spot on the NFL calendar.

The Texans currently face plenty of questions and criticism regarding whether they knew or should have known about the hernia. Given the apparent intricacy and specificity and incongruity (I know that doesn’t fit — I just couldn’t think of a third word that ended with “y”) of the pre-draft process, it seems like teams would, could, and should know whether a guy has a condition for which he ultimately needs surgery.

In Clowney’s case, the Texans have claimed that the injury arose after the draft. Which means that, if Clowney had the hernia in 2013, they missed it during the pre-draft process. Aiding the Texans’ position is that at least two other teams that picked in the top 10 didn’t know about Clowney’s hernia. Hurting the Texans’ position is that at least one other team knew there was a groin issue that may require hernia surgery.

For the Texans, the question becomes far more relevant because they, you know, drafted Clowney. And that he needed surgery. Complicating the situation for the Texans is that, as Nick Wright of SportsRadio 610 in Houston reminded me on the air earlier today, the move comes a year after the Texans signed safety Ed Reed to a contract that gave him $5 million guaranteed at a time when Reed had a hip problem that the Texans failed to detect during his physical.

Regardless of whether the Texans didn’t know whether Clowney had a hernia, they knew he had a groin issue. And that put them on notice that perhaps more work should be done. And the Texans apparently didn’t.

There is plenty of time for him to overcome his hurdle/ setback so I wouldn't panic just yet… just a one step backwards, two step sidewards kinda situation but he did show he has what it takes in the combine. As for (dynasty) fantasy.. he's likely to dip a bit you'd say to mid-Round 3?

Wonder if the Texan fans are pulling their hair out yet because K.MACK was the ideal OLB (major NEED) to fit nicely but on the flip side, they addressed the NT position (Nix) plus they also took a TE in the third.. to allow new HC to follow the NE double TE formula.

As in the mock draft we did earlier i valued Mack higher than Clowney but saying that i wouldn't have let a hernia stop me from drafting Clowney if i thought he was the best prospect in the draft. He will hopefully be a long term franchise DE for us and a hernia will not stop him from being that if he is as good as the majority of analysts believe. We are a better team with Clowney in it.

I do have concerns though to see if AJ's heart is still in Houston, we need him firing on the offensive side to push for that playoff spot. A fit and firing Foster, an on the ball AJ, an adequate QB in Fitzpatrick and a defence to fear gives me great hope going into the upcoming season.

I'm glad you're not the type of fan to think half empty bgt2110. There is going to be games where the Texan D will outmatch their opponents meaning turnovers galore and hopeful they become delicious 40 burgers on the scoreboard. That's gotta be something worth lickin' ya chops for as soon as the next tier step up to plate (with fork and knife in hands) and make it come together esp against Division rivals.

WTF....

Arian Foster continue to be good teammate, bad interview

Since a worthless press availability early in training camp, Texans running back Arian Foster has avoided the local media. He submitted to the media again on Thursday, and the end result was nearly as worthless.

But at least he offered up something other than hoping to be the best teammate he can be.

Asked how he feels about getting back on the practice field: “Good.”

How does he feel about his role in the offense? “I feel good about it.”

On whether he considered retirement last year: “I’m just out here trying to be the best teammate I can be, man.”

On whether he meant what he said when he told ESPN that he considered retirement: “Every day you just work hard. You’ve got to be the best teammate you can be out here.”

Asked how much it helps the Texans to practice against another team: “A lot. It helps a lot.”

How does practicing against another team help the Texans? “It just helps very much with everything.”

When does he hope to play in a game? “As soon as possible.”

What does he expect from himself this year? “Great football and being a good teammate.”

What does he think of the effort to raise money for cancer research on behalf of teammate David Quessenberry? “It’s awesome. Awesome.”

How did feel to go through a practice? “I felt good. I felt really good.”

What did he take away from the joint practices with the Falcons? “A lot of hard work. Good work out here.”

So why has he decided not to cooperate with the local media? “I’m just trying to be the best teammate I can be and that’s part of it.”

So did he ever give serious thought to retiring? “I’m working hard out here every day, and I’m going to continue to do that.”

Does he believe that creating a distraction (presumably via goofball answers to media questions) is the same as being a good teammate? “I get paid to play football and that’s what I’m going to continue to do and work hard at it.”

Does he know he’s required to talk to the media? “That’s why I’m here today.”

Would he like to play Saturday? “I’m just going to keep working hard and whatever happens after that is going to transpire.”

How far is he from being 100 percent? “Yeah, just got to keep working hard out here and I’m going to continue to do that.”

It’s unclear why Foster suddenly has a problem with the Houston media. At the league meetings in Orlando, we caught wind for the first time of tensions between Foster and the media covering the team on a regular basis.

After today’s session, Foster took to Twitter to say this: “When you don’t give them what they want or expect, they chastise you. Don’t put me in your little athlete box. #Staysuckafree

He also characterized a tweet contending that he was the only player to not sign autographs for fans as “Lies.”

Those tweets followed Foster’s missive from last month, after his “being a good teammate” routine: “Media is full of propaganda and you’re subjected to their agenda. Don’t let them think for you. #staysuckafree.”

Of course, Foster doesn’t dislike all media, although we’re probably now on his “good teammate” list for pointing out how he’s behaving. He recently gave an interview to ESPN, and he previously has been cooperative with PFT and other national outlets.

A very real problem nevertheless exists between Foster and the team’s press corps. It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out this season, including whether the Houston media eventually will file a formal complaint with the league regarding his failure to provide good-faith responses to questions he’s required to answer.
