I just looking through the baggygreen.com site and I stumbled upon the original 30 man world cup squad and I got to thinking that nearly all of the guys that didnt make the 15 man squad would easily fit into the supposive 2nd best team in the world, South Africa.

Check out this list of players who were in the original 30 man squad, but didnt make it to the world cup.

Greg Blewitt
Ashley Noffke
Ryan Campbell
Stuart Clarke
Micheal Clarke
Brad Haddin
Mark Higgs
Micheal Hussey
Justin Langer
Cameron White
Brad Williams
Damien Wright

And also, we cant forget the Waugh brothers.

Australia has unbelieveable depth at the moment!

He made it to the world cup eventually.

Opps, for some reason I always get him confused with Noffke.

Half are over 30 and dont have too long the Waugh brothers are a joke there is a lot of depth but will that depth be there in 3 years= not a chance and thats when the preperation for 2007 will take place although Aus cricket is looking fine now i think after 2005 the piture mightn't be so rosey.

I disagree. The average age of the list St Kris posted is 26.

Greg Blewitt - good player but blew his chances on the international scene
Ashley Noffke - still unproven
Ryan Campbell - interesting one, not sure yet, possible reserve keeper for the Windies tour
Stuart Clarke - no way, he's a lemon
Micheal Clarke - still unproven
Brad Haddin - not really
Mark Higgs - no way
Micheal Hussey - still got a way to go
Justin Langer - unlucky but is not well suited to the pyjama game
Cameron White - are you for real ??? just completed his first season you wally !!
Brad Williams - past his prime
Damien Wright - no bloody way

Our depth is better then every other country at the moment and that's why we're the best team in test and one-day cricket.

Justin Langer was the domestic one day player of the season, and his batting in Test cricket would indicate he could easily handle opening the batting in one day cricket.

I would open the ODI side with Langer and Hayden and move Gilchrist down to 4 and drop Bevan (or perhaps Martyn) from the side altogether.

Our depth is awesome, the New South Wales full strength team would beat most nations in a five day match.

THe depth also goes right through to our youth teams. Our under 19 team this year was awesome, and the English team really was no match for them.

The Paki spinners had him bamboozled but he's a great talent. I think he should move interstate - could be a replacement for Boof in the Test team. Didn't he score centuries in his first 2 tests ? Remember that Martyn was exiled after his 'freeze' v SA for a zillion years but now he's no 4.

Blewett did indeed score centuries in his first two Tests against England - in fact he scored a century in his first three tests against England. But he's only scored one other century in his Test career apart from that.

He's had his chance. The difference between him and Martyn is that Blewett had played over 40 Tests when he was last dropped while Martyn had played less then 10 when he was dropped in 1994 - Blewett can't complain.

Was that the double ton with Waugh v SA over there ? I remember him going at 99 in Adelaide (?). He also got a stack of consecutive centuries in the Shield. I think he plays County in UK and goes well.

These guys play for so long now , no one gets written off. That's why he should reignite his career in another state and get on the radar.

I read an article by Imran Khan recently who said we are so far ahead of the rest that our 2nd stringers could have made the final too. He states that out domestic comp is so competitive - even at club level too i think - that there is no wonder our International players are so well prepared.

Move Gilchrist to 4 ??

Are you mad ????

The reason why the Aussies do so well is because he gets them off to such a good start. Why the hell would you want to replace him with a plodder like Langer ???

Sheer lunacy !!

Agree re Gilly - his performance was the catalyst for our success last weekend.

Re Langer - well he has been batting unlike a plodder to me in recent times - i'd say he has been trying very hard to shake that tag - almost going out of his way to do it where on some occasions he has been a bit reckless - and luckily for him and us - he has been getting away with it most of the time. And then there was over from Warnie at the MCG where he belted him around the park.
