This isn't a MM abusing thread but just wanted others opinions on where or if we have improved under MM ?

I was all for Ratt's going and bringing in Mick but i'm not so sure now. Yes we don't have the list but we have gone backwards since last season.

List is getting better but is at the early stages of a mini-rebuild.

Everything else... not sure. Still willing to see what Mick and Rogers etc can do with a bit more time.

Unfair to compare Mick's list to Ratten's. The latter had the Judd of old who could lift us and drag players along with him. They're now tagging Murphy and Gibbs now. We haven't gone from an undeniable top team to mediocre like Collingwood.

List's strengthes and weaknesses are comparable to the other bottom eight teams who aren't GWS.

Club does need the injury Gods to smile on for once.

We have gone backwards because our better players are all 30+ and the others haven't come on enough to pick up the slack coupled with disastrous recruiting/developing over 2009-2011 (in particular).

We are just feeling the belated effects of poor drafting from the 2009 - 2011 drafts.

While we have had several good players take their game up a notch this year we have had more swing hard in the other direction.

Hendo, Waite, Mclean, Carazzo, Scotland, Tuohy, Walker, Judd, Armfield, Garlett, Jamison and Kreuzer have all had poor seasons.

He's aware that we have major deficiencies in important areas ... Probably the most satisfying thing I've heard out of the club in about 10 years!

As a whole? Gone backwards. List peaked 3 years ago when we lost the semi by three points.

Now Mick has gotten Gibbs and Yarran playing at their highest levels. He has also done a decent job with Rowe, White, Casboult and to a slightly lesser extent Ellard whe fit

He brought Thomas, Docherty and Everitt. Everitt is the pick of the bunch this year but Thomas is getting fitter and Doc has at least 8-10years barring tragedy.

Has also had to deal with a horror run of injuries. Name me five players who havent had an injury or surgery since November?

Also he has some exciting kids. Menzel and Buckley have been beacons of light. He clearly see's Graham as something but may need to move someone on to get him the games he needs. Have heard good things about Holman, Johnson, Reynolds.

Mick inherited a historic estate that had the wallpaper and gardens regularly cleaned but the piping, wiring and frame had been grossly poorly managed. He is cleaning and repairing, just hope he does it quicker.

After he got to Collingwood i think only 3-5 players were still there 3 years after he started. Could be off on numbers.

Worse, but as already posted, mainly due to failed recruiting over several years. Kreuzer has been a disappointment (his brittle body) and with our failure to recruit any decent big men since Hendo, we have no spine.

Injuries of late have played their role, but also there seems to be a persistent mindset - in evidence again on Sunday - that we don't have to turn up to play against less fancied opponents. Because we're not good enough to beat the top teams, and apparently can't be ****ed getting up against the "poorer" teams, the only teams we're a real chance of winning against are those around our own level of mediocrity.

This is really frustrating. It's what condemned Ratts in 2012 and it's what MM is now having to contend with. How to change this lazy culture? Is it certain players or is it just endemic at our club right now?

casboult, gibbs, yarran (all 3 out of contract year end)

sam rowe is MM type of player , curnow is now our no.1 tagger

buckley (until injured), menzel are establishing themselves expect cripps

everitt has been a good pick up , docherty showed promise in his first couple of games

wish we had a fit kreuzer & henderson

players that have gone backwards ;

waite, garlett, mclean

walker (really disappointed in him, signs a big 3 year contract and has gone backwards)

carazzo - think injuries and age have caught up but why does semi circle every time he gets the ball

tuohy - maybe playing injured ?

The 2009 and 2010 drafts cruelled the list but smart recruiting has made up for that a bit this year. But the hole is still gaping and we need more smart recruiting at the end of the season. The draft alone won't fix it.

I'm not sure about improvement. I like what Murphy, Gibbs and Yarran are now bringing to the field but I am alarmed at the form of Walker and Henderson and the decline of Garlett and Lucas.

Backwards to go forwards? Maybe.

No. 18 months on We've gone backwards, rubbish recruiting hasn't helped...but the so called "gameplan" is an utter mess that looks more and more unworkable each week. Players are a big issue at this club.....but i honestly feel Mick isn't the right fit either.

What's to say that Talia, Darling/Smith, Parker and other hindsight picks wouldn't be poorer players at Carlton?

Easy to point the finger at the recruiter if the club hasn't brought on our picks who were draftable. Club doesn't have enough natural leaders and a culture that teaches them professional football. Other clubs are having similar issues. Laidler, Duigan, Carrazzo and Scotland added stability and leadership. Shame they slowed down and went backwards due to injuries. No one has taken up the slack with Judd also slowing down on the field.

This is also the first time since 2011 that Kreuzer hasn't been available every week. Huge loss after he dragged us over the line against Norf last year.

Henderson, Walker and Tuohy are clearly carrying something.

A few players are playing better, but no, we have not improved overall. I can't even remember the last time we really thumped a team, something we did a bit in 2011 and 2012.

agree ... we have forgotten how to win easy ..... every game is a struggle

if we get 3-4 goals up nowadays I just expect the opposition will come back at some stage

another good point ... post judd no one stands up consistently to lead the team to victory

even in the elimination final last year it was judd who started the comeback !!!

Exactly, even in our wins against the Dogs and Saints I wasn't comfortable until deep into the last quarter. I wish we could just put a side away at half time, sadly I don't think that's going to happen for the rest of the year.
