Hey all. Over the last couple of years, we've all heard that this time it's different for the club. This rebuild is the one that will bring us back from dormancy, not necessarily win a flag, but this is the one where the tide is changing for the club.

Being 19, I have only really followed the club closely for the last 4 or so years. Not that I wasn't a supporter, but I was a kid and I didn't know what was going off field, who we get in the drafts, who we recruited in the off season, I just went to the games with my dad and cheered until I had no voice left.

I would like to ask the more seasoned supporters of this club, how is it different this time? I didn't understand football well enough to take notice while I was younger to know. How is this administration the one to take us forward, how is this list different to the others that made finals in the 30 odd year drought?

Cheers, fellow tigs :)

The difference now is that we actually HAVE an administration.
A big contrast to the complete amateurs we had before.
Richmond is now a very professional organisation.
Wether or not this will take us to a premiership, who knows.
However, it will give us every chance to.

100% this, would like twice if i could. We were slow to catch up in off field areas of footy after the golden era and the effects were catastrophic. At least now we are giving ourselves a chance.

I feel like we are making the right decisions on and off field. The team has a solid young core. I also have a lot of faith in dimma and gale with what theyve achieved. Its more about personel on field now imo (and a few good assistants) back in our development and draft well and we will continue to move up the ladder.

I agree with the other Tigers that have answered above, but I'd add, explicitly, we actually have money now. In the past, we've needed the biggest fan base in the competition just to pay the interest on our debts.

God knows what we've used to pay players for 30 years. Maybe we let them keep their jumpers at the end of the year. Maybe they were paid in petrol vouchers when Esso was the sponsor. Maybe we just fed them through summer, and they kept coming back.

Actually mate I think you'll find we overpaid average players.

This is a ridiculous answer.
But it just feels and looks different this time.
Sustainable and consistent are the things.

Back in 2004, when Terry Wallace took over, we had one part time recruiter (Greg Miller). We drafted Jarrad Oakley-Nichols after seeing him play once or twice and watching a highlights video of him.

When the change rooms needed to be painted, Terry Wallace had to buy the paint himself because the club was broke.

And that's just 2004/05. The cub nearly folded through lack of resources back in 1990.

Basically if you have no money, you have no recruiters and no football department. When that happens you draft spuds and fail to develop them. Which leads to shit onfield performance, which leads to shit revenue, which leads to shit off-field staff, which leads to poor recruiting/development, which leads to poor onfield performance, and so on.

Basically Benny Gale's doom loop.

Off field we have closed the gap on the pace setter. No debt, down from 5m , 70,000 members , vfl side and amenities that are the envy of the afl. Sadly this couldn't be said for any of the last 35 years right up until now, and we all know flags aren't won by accident , you need to have your shit together
