That's an interesting thread! Wow. I am further mystified as to what the issue is. If you want to enter and maintain 10 teams I don't see the issue. A poster says it's in the rules that you can't enter 2 teams quoting this rule:

Only one registration per Eligible Participant (and per email address supplied) will be accepted

One registration per "email address"?

Per participant AND per email. You can't have one guy with ten addresses and ten teams, and you can't have ten people with ten teams sharing one address.

It's like people putting multiple bets on the one event. So what?
Completely different, because there's only one prize.

So if there was a $1 lottery with 1 prize and you buy 10 tickets are you cheating? Or, if SC had an entry fee would it then be OK to enter multiple times? I don't see how the 2 comebacks so far explain how having multiple SC/DT teams a form of cheating.

You still have to pick the teams and work on them during the season. Cheating is hacking the system and changing players or adding trades, etc. Multiple teams is just multiple teams. If you have a slightly different structure you want to try out you can put in a second team. Is it any more "honest" to put a team in your sister's name and act as her "expert advisor" throughout the season?

I get that the software simply won't allow you to enter > 1 team on the one email address but, that aside:

1 - if VS were really concerned about it they would make the ID checking process more thorough (which they don't - they could issue an ID number per name//DOB/address combination somehow or do something to enforce this apparent rule ... 1 registration per IP address?)

2 - how many people actually obey this rule anyway? Of the 350,000 teams how many actualy people are playing? If it's 300,000 coaches then are there 50,000 cheats?

I think Virtual Sports want lots of teams in their comps for marketing purposes and so will only act if something obvious happens like the same person finishes 1 and 2.

If you are doing IP addresses what about people that access their team at work/uni/internet cafe etc. You just couldn't police that properly.

Agree that they want as many teams as possible to entice sponsors.

In one of my leagues with mates that wasn't full I swear the randoms they put in are all bot teams. One team is like Hirdys heroes and full of bombers, another is like Malthouses Men and full of pies, and Rattens royals and full of blues etc. Anyone else notice this?

The lottery comparison is pretty poor. It's more like having a raffle with one entry per person and someone entering 10 times.

Also I'm not sure how marketing comes into it. It's not like the person with 10 teams is getting different marketing to the person with 1 team. VS tries to reach as many people as they can, reaching the same person multiple times is counter-productive to them.

If there are only 300,000 actual people playing but 350,000 teams VS can pretend there are 350,000 people playing when they market themselves to anybody. I am suggesting, without knowing for sure, that the more teams they have registered the better it looks for them. Otherwise, why don't they try harder to enforce this rule?

Look, I don't have a second team myself so I am not trying to justify something I am doing. I don't do a second team because I know I would spend (waste) too much time on it.

I simply don't get the moral outrage that seems to come out when this topic comes up. You've still got to research and spend the time on 2nd or 3rd teams so it's not as though you are getting a free ride.

Ahh, right, yeah I get what you're saying with selling advertising space, I was looking at it from a different angle with how many would actually view it. And true, you do need to put in research to come up with a good team, but having more than one team certainly gives you a greater chance of pulling off the overall or weekly win. Someone with 1 team sweats on whether they have a player like Yarran or not. Someone with 2 teams has him in one and not the other.

When assembling a side at the start of the year I accidently found a way that gave me extra money in my salary cap. Im a bit hazy on how it happened, but when i quickly did a player swap I effectively ended up with an extra 500,000 in my salary cap. This allowed me to draft an extra premium into my side. Once i tried to save the side it wouldn't let me. Maybe the same thing has happened to others and they have been able to save the side unlike me.
