….in 12 easy steps:

  1. Each and every day – wake up and smell the coffee.
  2. If an ex-politician is trying a little too hard to make it all about him – ignore.
  3. By the time you reach 21 years of age, you should have stopped acting like a boy scout.
  4. If the ex-head of a government body is trying a little too hard to get in on the act – ignore.
  5. If the current head of a government body is talking a little bit too much about resourcing – take note.
  6. Understand the commercial imperatives – I mean really understand them – tear apart strand by strand and understand where the money comes from and where it goes too.
  7. Pay very, very close attention to who is pissing in whose pockets.
  8. Pay very, very close attention to who owes who a favour – pay back time is never too far away.
  9. Don’t fall into the trap of believing that of primary importance are money flows from government – even more important are money flows to government (not just talking about tax dollars here, I’m talking about at the party level, and I’m talking about other revenues – everyone ignored the latter in this instance, to their detriment).
  10. When the experts start talking with absolute conviction about how an untested legal provision is set to play out – proceed with extreme caution.
  11. Never, ever fall into the trap of following the populist line – you will be blinded by irrationality. Do not – under any circumstances – believe that everything is black and white and that all issues can be reduced to a right and wrong answer. That is rarely the case, but that’s what you end up with if you follow the populist line.
  12. Don’t worry too much about those talking the most – pay particular attention to those talking the least – the tiny snippet they let slip is worth ten-fold the absolute reams the self-appointed experts are babbling on about.

An excerpt from BSE’s book: Understanding life, the universe and cooking with fennel. Out soon in all good bookstores.

I want my time spent reading that dribble back.

Where can I get an advanced copy of the book?
Sounds FFAAAAANNTTTAASSSSSTTIC!

I have long been intrigued with the possibilities of fennel....;)

Step 13

....create an aura of pseudo-intellectualism by trotting out glib cliches that have little-to-no use outside of creating an aura of pseudo-intellectualism.

You forgot the part where for months spruik a revolutionary paper (whilst maintaing vigilant that belief you are the most intelligent person in the room) and when finally presented with a chance to present it; only produce a "passage of text" and claim it is from said revolutionary paper.

Pseudo-intellectualism?

I would have thought it was decidedly anti-intellectual (which is appropriate for a Footscray boy).

I am disappointed BSE I was expecting a well written, well researched "paper" on the issue, instead you provided 12 repetitive dot points which say next to nothing ......

Thank you for the kind words.

I don't recall ever using the adjective: "revolutionary", but I accept your descriptor.

It's entirely approriate given that in the very first election I ever voted in, upon turning 18, I voted for the Socialist Workers' Party in the seat of Gellibrand, and was dismayed to find that I was only one of about 50 people which gave that rep a primary vote.

I learned a valuable lesson that day.

By definition, the 12 points must say something.

I have not disappeared - I am here - in both body and spirit.

Just use step 12...its called BSE self ownage. Don’t worry too much about those talking the most – pay particular attention to those talking the least – the tiny snippet they let slip is worth ten-fold the absolute reams the self-appointed experts are babbling on about.

I now invite posters to add their own dot point which could be considred under the broad theme of this well written and thoroughly researched paper.

I have a few additional ones, but could not add them because I felt it necessary to remain concise.

There's this one:

  • consider the issue with your head, your mind AND your brain.

(courtesy of Jack Black and School of Rock - I did promise full referencing)

ha ha - I'm waaaay behind plenty of self-annointed experts on this board :):)

Phone auto corrected disappointed as disappeared. Point still stands, this "enlightening" paper that you have promised us and derailed threads over is a piece of shit and obviously a joke

As I said earlier, I will accept all constructive criticism.

As long as at least one poster gains something from my paper, then I will have achieved everything I have worked towards over the last 8 months or so.

revolutionary
rɛvəˈluːʃ(ə)n(ə)ri/
adjective
adjective: revolutionary
  1. 1.
involving or causing a complete or dramatic change.

You claimed to have a paper that would "change the way we viewed" on how to anaylse complex issue (I can get the quotes for you). Which by defintion is a revolutionary document. I put it to you that there is no such document and if there is or at some stage to be one; suggest that you understand how to anaylse what people have said or written in response to your claims. Kind of how you would anaylse issues of variant complexities.

Whether something is revolutionary is in the eye of the beholder.

Pogo sticks were considered revolutionary in their day.

Many would now argue that that ended up being a false dawn.

This is what you've been talking up for so long? This is why you believe your opinion should be revered and worth so much more than anyone else?

This is your researched, referenced paper on how to analyse complex situations, and it all comes down to "I don't trust government departments or people who are making money", without any kind of reference to actually understanding the situation, nor the relevant agreed rules or regulations that are applicable.

I will take one thing from your "paper", and that is point 12. I will not pay attention to those talking the most. On this topic, that's you.

Yes, yes, not quite and I'm definitely not saying to not trust people making money - I'm advising people to understand where it fits in, that's all.

Re your last point - that you have got something from my researched referenced paper makes the effort worthwhile.
