Cult tells kids to drink bleach to beat SARS
Authorities in Hong Kong say a religious sect is preying on school children by telling them they can ward off SARS by drinking bleach.
The claims come after police said they were looking into whether three men arrested earlier this week had belonged to a separate sex cult accused of selling girls into prostitution.
Education chiefs are monitoring claims that an unnamed "mission" is targeting primary school pupils in the Yuen Long neighbourhood of the New Territories district, close to the mainland Chinese border.
Students and parents told police the group had tried to convince children that drinking potentially lethal hydrogen peroxide would help ward off the deadly severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) virus.
A spokesman would not say how many students had been approached.
