Frankston has had more time to develop a list, with them continuing to stand alone in the VFL. Ashley Eames joining the Dolphins freeing up Clarke. Chris Oliver is another handy addition. Aaron Edwards from West Coast, along a with some Zebras' players crossing over including Paul Kennedy and Toby Conroy . Combined with some of the exciting talent from the Stingrays, I reckon they are a definite top 8 side, and a flag smokey.

The Borough have had to recruit hard to cover the losses of several KP players since the split between Port and North, and Bonaddio being Rookied was another big loss for 2006 as is the departure of B&F winner Ben Robbins... On the plus side, they have picked up, Becker and Pleming from Carlton, Warren Carlyle, Nick Raines, Matthew Smith, Brayden Shaw, Luke Peel, Myles Krakouer, Rowan Nayna and former Captain Brent Evans is back at the club... Probably only a 'rebuilding' year, but should still have some impact on the final 8.

Always tough a flag chance as a standalone side in the VFL, but at their best, both clubs could surprise in 2006.

Ltes hope both clubs have good seasons but it is very difficult to compete with the likes of Sandy and Werribee who both have the benefit of strong VFL lists and some very good AFL players to draw on each week.

Ons, two questions for you...

What's the story about Ben Robbins' departure?
What relation to all the AFL Krakouers is the Andrew Krakouer that you mentioned? There was an Andrew who was the younger brother of Jim and Phil, but he would be in his mid thirties by now.

Robbins initially only committed to one year, and I believe this year a combination of the birth of a child, work commitments and injury means that he is only a slim chance of playing on this year.

Robbins won several awards at the club for an outstanding season in 2005.

My bad! It's Myles, thats what happens when I write at the wee hours of the morning :)

Forget about the 8. Can Port beat Collingwoodtown?

what else is happening in the VFL

http://www.vflfooty.com ;)

Most of the clubs would have a reasonable idea of who they will get for the 2006 season now that the drafts are over.

Most clubs have already listed their 'official' practice matches, but you will start to see towards the end of February more practice matches being announced for aligned sides, so that AFL clubs can have their enitre list playing in the pre-season when not selected in the NAB cup. Normally these games are played on weekdays and will only actually have a handful of VFL listed players involved.

Bendigo Bombers have lost Kain Robbins who after tossing up about the SANFL and a local Bendigo club elected to sign with Bendigo league runners-up, Eaglehawk.
Bomber coach Knighter is chasing a lot of young talent from the BFL clubs. From South Bendigo he looks like snaring Jake Matthews who was good in the Bendigo league finals last Sept.
But Knighter can forger Damien Cupido, of course. Sheeds' favorite training and mindset player has scarpered to South Adelaide.
Ben Bombers will play 3 games in central Vic. under lites, including the season opener on Sat. April 8 against 05 runner-up Werribee. That's actually a 5.30 pm start-twilite game, but the lights will obviously come into effect
Other Bendigo night games --- round 4 (Sat. April 29) v Nthn. Bullants and round 20 (Aug 26) v Sandy.

KNIGHTER is signing a fair few young local Bendigo players, Onnie.
Mind you, plenty of these will kick the dew off the grass in the VFL Twos in 06.
Among those going around in the Red and Black this year will be:-
Brodie Culpitt (C'maine), Jake Matthews (Sth Bendigo), Brian Ruffell (Kyneton), Gavin Bowles and Matt Sawyer (White Hills).
Up from the 2005 TAC Cup under-18 Bendigo Pioneers: Josh Bowe, Daniel Frew, Shannon Geary, Joel West.
These latter 4 all had a gallop for their assigned BFL senior sides once the Pios' 2005 season was over.

Any chance of Robbo going around with his junior club Maffra

Werribee has recruited CHF Jordan Barham from Gisborne. Under senior coach Mickey McGuane, now at St Kilda, Barham played in 2 Gis. grand finals for 1 flag and a runner-up.
He's 194 cm (6 ft 5 ins) and kicked 59 goals in the Bendigo league last season, including 6 bags of five goals or more.
Should straighten up the Tigers as they go into attack. You guys will remember his uncle Ricky Barham at C'wood and maybe even his Dad, Billy Barham. Billy coached Kyneton at one stage in the Bendigo league and another son, Marcus, is currently coach at Gisborne.

 Essendon will play maybe Hawthorn, maybe Western Doggies, in Bendigo on Friday night, March 10. Actual club competing against Ess. depends on NAB Cup results this weekend.
Will this be a recruiting ploy for the Windy Hill boys to sign up AFL memberships, or will it give the VFL Bendigo Bombers a boost ?
Last March between 13,000 and 14,000 people shoe-horned into the local Bendigo ground. Wonder what the crowd will be like this year -- and what the beer sales figure will reach ??
